Contents. On verso <strong>of</strong> title-page is a preface <strong>of</strong> 1 1 lines beginning, " My<br />

zeale for the publike good hath invited me <strong>to</strong> expose this short but excellent<br />

treatise <strong>to</strong> the publike view, being without controversy, the best <strong>of</strong> all<br />

moderne Trades <strong>up</strong>on this subjeft." Only the instructions for h<strong>and</strong>ling<br />

Infantry are given ; each company <strong>of</strong> which is <strong>to</strong> be composed <strong>of</strong> two-thirds<br />

Musketeers <strong>and</strong> one-third Pikes, ranged in files <strong>of</strong> eight deep. Fol. 7 verso<br />

concludes with an advertisement <strong>to</strong> the effect that the intention had been<br />

<strong>to</strong> include directions for cavalry, but that, defedts having arisen in the<br />

'*copy'* during the publisher's (/.^., the edi<strong>to</strong>r's) absence, these had been<br />

withheld.<br />
