Contents. A s<strong>up</strong>plement <strong>to</strong> the " Principles <strong>of</strong> the Art Military " [Nos.<br />

136, 163, 164]. The sums fixed for ransoms rise from 10 guilders for the<br />

" waggon-man," pioneer, <strong>and</strong> *' driver <strong>of</strong> cannon horses," <strong>to</strong> i ,000 guilders<br />

for the Captain <strong>of</strong> a Troop <strong>of</strong> Horse in Esse (pp. 3-6). There is a " List<br />

<strong>of</strong> dailie diet" allowed <strong>to</strong> prisoners (pp. 6-8), <strong>and</strong> a "List <strong>of</strong> the States pay<br />

<strong>and</strong> entertainments for a troope <strong>of</strong> Horse <strong>and</strong> a Companie <strong>of</strong> foote every<br />

long month <strong>of</strong> two <strong>and</strong> fortie dayes" (p. 19. Paging is that <strong>of</strong> ist ed.).<br />

The second edition was brought out with the same object as the later editions<br />

<strong>of</strong> the " Principles <strong>of</strong> the Art Military", that is, for the instrudHon <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers,<br />

both Royalist <strong>and</strong> Parliamentary, during the Civil Wars in Engl<strong>and</strong>. It<br />

has additions—an "Order for the Provost Marshall Generall" on p. 11,<br />

<strong>and</strong> a " Proclamation <strong>and</strong> Edi«Sl against wicked Swearers" on p. 19.<br />
