Contents, A treatise on the rules <strong>of</strong> heraldry regarding single combats,<br />

<strong>to</strong>urnaments, <strong>and</strong> knighthood. Chap. IV., Bk. IV., on "the priviledges due<br />

<strong>to</strong> all men pr<strong>of</strong>essing arms," closes with the remark that " no man under the<br />

degree <strong>of</strong> gentleman ought <strong>to</strong> be received or allowed for a Man-at-Arms on<br />

horseback." In Chap. IV., Bk. III., the rule has been laid down that " Menat-arms<br />

may not be refused <strong>to</strong> fight with any private Captain <strong>of</strong> footmen."<br />
