c. The battle group commander designates primary,<br />

alternate, and supplementary reserve positions<br />

in the battle group rear area. He specifies<br />

the priority of construction and designates the<br />

positions to be occupied initially. After preparation<br />

of the positions, the company may be held<br />

in a concealed assembly area.<br />

158. Organization of Positions<br />

a. Reserve positions are organized generally<br />

the same as in a forward company area (pars.<br />

130-142).<br />

b. The 81-mm mortar squads may be directed<br />

to reinforce the fires of the mortars of a forward<br />

company (par. 58). In this case, barrages are<br />

planned and fired as requested by the reinforced<br />

unit. When no reinforcing mission has been assigned,<br />

the mortars of a reserve company do not<br />

fire barrages.<br />

c. The construction of obstacles is coordinated<br />

closely with battle group to permit the desired<br />

movement of friendly forces in the battle group<br />

rear area.<br />
