Technology at Northwest Mississippi Community College, which is accredited by the American
Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) 3414 Ashland Avenue, Suite G, St. Joseph,
Missouri 64506; (816) 233-3747. Web: (www.abfse.org) Funeral Service Technology classes
are taught at the NWCC DeSoto Center Campus in Southaven, Mississippi, and offer complete
professional instruction in all areas of funeral service.
Enrollment is limited and subject to specific program admission requirements. Details of these

Curriculum

ADMSSION REQUIREMENTS
As applications and supporting documents are submitted, an applicant review will be conducted
by an admissions committee. Applicants meeting ALL of the MINIMUM requirements may be
selected into the new class. Each class has a limited enrollment, and selection is made on a
competitive basis. A minimum cumulative grade of 2.0 is required at the end of each semester
to remain in the program.
**ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION INTO THE
FUNERAL SERVICE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED BY THE
FUNERAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT YOUR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE
PROGRAM.**
A. Specific Minimum Admission Requirements Include:
1. Two (2) Applications:
a. Application for Admission to Northwest.
b. Application to the Funeral Service Technology Program. (No faxed copies)
2. Additional Forms Needed:
a. High School Transcript.
b. College Transcript(s) if applicable.
c. The American College Test (ACT) Scores.
1. A minimum composite score of 18 is required for admittance.
2. Applicants with a composite score of less than 18 should retake the ACT.
Contact the College for dates.
3. The ACT score is waived for those who hold a Baccalaureate degree or
higher.
B. Additional Admission Requirements:
1. All requested information should be sent to:

2. Transfer Requirements:
a. Any course(s) with a prefix of FST (or its equivalent) must have been taken
within the past 3 years to be accepted.
b. All other transfer courses must have been taken within the past 5 years to be
accepted.
c. A grade of “C” or better is required for transfer subjects.
d. Courses that do not meet the above requirements must be retaken.
e. Transferees from another funeral service program must not be on academic
probation at that institution.

3. Students that have been out of the Program for three (3) years or longer must repeat all
courses that the Boards test on.
4. Notification will be given when all information has been received and approved.

Housing
Dormitories are available on the Senatobia Campus which is within commuting distance from the
DeSoto Center campus. Other housing must be arranged by the student.

Financial Assistance
l. Any student who needs financial assistance is encouraged to complete financial
aid forms (Pell Grants, Student Loans).
2. Students may contact their State Funeral Director’s Association on the
availability of other scholarships.
