IONA SPORT - A YEAR IN REVIEW
With 2014 Iona Sport drawing to a close, it is worthwhile to reflect
on our directions. Inter-house sport again served the important
purpose of participation and enjoyment. AIC competition was again
enthralling and character building—it was an arena that saw Marist
College Ashgrove dominate, surrounded by Colleges who see the
value in strong sporting programs. There is no doubt that the
improvement exhibited by some Colleges has meant that our
traditional strongholds are now threatened by our opposition. We
will need to improve our sport via resources, coaching, high rates of
participation and continued enjoyment—it is not an easy task but
we will show the necessary “beast” to remain strong. Our 2015
sporting mantra will be “get moving, get coached, get enjoyment”.
We had forty-seven senior sportsmen represent at regional level;
twenty-four at Queensland level and four senior athletes gain
individual medals at national championships.
Mr Rick Nalatu continues to guide our High Performance Program
which provides the necessary balance between sport, academics
and growth.
SWIMMING
There is a trial meet being held this Thursday afternoon here at
school. All swimmers from Years 5-11 are asked to attend. A
sausage sizzle will be held straight after the meet. The following
events will be swum: 200 IM, 100m Free, 50m Free, 50m strokes
and 200/400m Free. The meet should finish by 5.00 pm.
Swimmers invited to attend the 2015 High Performance Swim
Camp at Tallebudgera Rec Camp from January 21-23 have been
provided with all the necessary information. Year 11s need to
return their permission forms by Thursday 13 November. All others
are to be returned by Thursday 20 November. FORMS MUST BE
RETURNED IF YOU ARE WANTING TO ATTEND.
