Kim Gillis is vice president and managing director of Boeing Defence Australia.
Named to this position in June 2011, Gillis manages all Boeing Defence Australia
businesses and functions at the organisation’s 15 sites across the country and four
international locations. His duties include the establishment and execution of new and
existing programs, achieving corporate objectives, and implementing corporate
strategies that position Boeing’s defence activities in Australia for continued success.
Prior to being named to his current position, Gillis was Boeing Defence
Australia’s chief operating officer. In this role, he was responsible for the organisation’s
day-to-day operations; alignment and integration with Boeing Defense, Space &
Security (BDS); and compliance and governance. He was appointed to this position in
March 2011.
Gillis joined Boeing in September 2010 as chief operating officer of International
Operations and Compliance for BDS.
Prior to Boeing, Gillis was general manager systems for the Australian Defence
Materiel Organisation (DMO) and was responsible for a staff of 6,000 with an annual
expenditure budget of AU$7 billion. In this role, he led the reform agenda for DMO
acquisition and sustainment in an environment of significant change as a result of major
Defence-wide reforms. As a senior program manager he successfully managed and

executed multibillion-dollar projects involving integrated teams of professionals in
Australia and overseas.
Prior to this role, Gillis was vice president for Military Projects for the Austal
Group, where he was the capture team lead and project manager for the U.S. Navy
Littoral Combat Ship, the Joint High Speed Vessel program, and the Royal Australian
Navy Armidale Class patrol boat fleet.
Gillis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration with a major in
legal studies from University of Canberra. He is a qualified Master Project Director
(AIPM) and a Master Mariner. Gillis also is the founder and sponsor of Queensland
University of Technology Executive Masters in Complex Project Management Program
and International Centre for Complex Project Management.
