Standard FBS is conventional serum<br />
that not only acts as a growth<br />
promoting additive to cell culture<br />
media, but also as a stabiliser in<br />
diagnostic assays, for surface coating<br />
culture vessels or inactivating trypsin. It<br />
supports most cell lines and is tested<br />
for viruses and microorganisms<br />
Heat treated FBS inactivates the<br />
complement system and many<br />
enzymes within the serum so is<br />
suitable for immunoassays or certain<br />
enzyme tests. Gamma irradiated<br />
FBS further eliminates viruses and<br />
mycoplasmas so is ideal for vaccine<br />
production. Other treated sera are also<br />
available including IgG stripped and<br />
dialysed (see website for details)<br />
