Steady and successful governance keeps
the Turkish economy away from vulnerability
Türk ekonomisinin özellikle son yıllarda sağlanan istikrarlı ve güçlü yönetim anlayışıyla hızlı bir büyüme
performansı yakaladığını söyleyen Shell Türkiye Ülke Başkanı Ahmet Erdem, “Dünyada ve bölgesinde
yaşanan ekonomik zorluklara rağmen Türkiye’nin bu sorunlardan çok fazla etkilenmemesi, yabancı yatırım
açısından ülkemizin cazibesini artırdı” dedi.
Shell Turkey Country Chairman Ahmet Erdem said that the Turkish economy has achieved a rapid growth
performance, particularly with the steady and powerful governance approach it has attained in the recent
years and he adds; “The economic difficulties being experienced in the world and the region do not impact
Turkey too much and this has increased the attraction of our country for foreign investment”.

umhuriyet’in kurulduğu yıldan bu yana Türkiye’nin en
köklü enerji şirketlerinden biri olarak faaliyetlerini devam
ettiklerini belirten Erdem, şirketin öncü niteliğindeki
uygulamalarıyla sektöre yön verdiğini, arama faaliyetleriyle
Türkiye için değer yaratmaya çalıştıklarını ifade etti. Erdem, 2023
yılında ‘en büyük 10 ekonomi’ arasına girme hedefine ulaşabilmek
için yabancı yatırımlarn artmasının şart olduğunu ifade etti.
Dünyada ve bölgede süregelen ekonomik ve sosyal sorunların
bir müddet daha varlığını koruyacağına dikkat çeken Ahmet Erdem:
“Türkiye’nin istikrarlı ve güçlü yapısıyla bu süreci nispeten
daha kolay bir şekilde geçeceğine inanıyorum. Kısa vadede bazı
dalgalanmalar, bunlara bağlı tedbirler olsa bile Türkiye, çizgisinde
önemli bir değişiklik yaşamadan yoluna başarıyla devam
edecektir. Kararlı ve başarılı yönetim anlayışı, Türk ekonomisini
kırılganlıktan uzak tutuyor. Ülkemizin büyüme hızı doğrultusunda
enerji talebi de artan bir hızla büyümeye devam edecektir.”
Sektörün çok büyük değişimlerin yaşanmadığı bir yılı tamamladığını,
benzin tüketiminin azalmasına rağmen motorin ve LPG

rdem said that they have been operating as one of the
well-established energy companies of Turkey since the
foundation of the Republic. He said the company leads
the industry with its pioneering implementations, and that they
are trying to create value for Turkey through their exploration
activities. Erdem expressed that it is a must that the foreign
investments increase, in order to achieve the goal of ranking
among the “10 largest economies” by 2023.
Ahmet Erdem highlighted that the prevailing economic and
social problems over the world and in the region will continue
to exist for some more while and said, “I believe that Turkey
will overcome this period relatively easily due to its stable and
strong structure. Even though certain short term fluctuations
and consequent measures may come up, Turkey will successfully
continue without experiencing a major change on its path. The
determined and successful governance approach is keeping
the Turkish economy away from being vulnerable. The energy
demand will continue to grow at an increasing rate, in line with
our country’s growth rate”.

bu yüksek artışın otomasyon sistemi ve kayıt dışı tüketime karşı
yürütülen mücadelenin önemini ortaya koyduğunu belirten Erdem,
2012 yılında sektörün en büyük sorununun yine kayıtdışı
ürünler ve özellikle motorin yerine kullanılan ‘10 Numara Yağ’
tüketiminin olduğuna dikkat çekti. Erdem, sektör hakkında şu
değerlendirmeleri yaptı: “Akaryakıt sektörünün sorunlarının en
başında gelen 10 numara yağ sorunun halen sürmesi ve alınan
mali tedbirlere rağmen azalmaması, ekonomik ve çevresel zararlarının
yanı sıra iç piyasada hakkıyla iş yapmak isteyen işletmeleri
de etkiliyor. Bununla birlikte yeni
Türk Petrol Kanunu taslağının bu yılın sonuna
kadar yasalaşmasının da sektöre bir
ivme katacağı görüşündeyim. Karada ve
denizde arama ve üretime yönelik mevcut
faaliyetlerin artırılması ve yenilenebilir
enerjiler alanında yeni yatırımların piyasaya
girmesiyle birlikte enerji sektöründe bir
büyüme olacağını öngörebiliriz”
Türkiye’de enerji sektörünün geçmişe
oranla çok daha gelişmiş olduğunu, enerji
potansiyeli yatırımcılar için birçok fırsatı
barındırdığını ifade eden Erdem: “Türkiye
kendi enerji ihtiyacının çok az bir kısmını
öz kaynaklarından karşılayabiliyor. Ekonomimiz
büyüdükçe ülke olarak enerjiye
ihtiyacımızın da iki katına çıkacağını öngörebiliriz.
Türkiye’nin hedefediği gibi
2023’de dünyanın en büyük on ekonomisi
arasında yer alabilmesi için enerji sektörü
lokomotif görevi görecektir. Türkiye’nin
enerji koridorlarının kesişme noktasında bulunması nedeniyle
çok önemli projelerin gelişeceğini düşünüyorum. Nitekim Shell
ve TPAO’nun geçen yıl açık deniz erken evre arama ve değerlendirme
ile Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgesi’nde karada arama çalışmaları
yapmak üzere gerçekleştirdiği işbirliği, bu potansiyeli
yansıtan iyi bir örnek oldu. Önümüzdeki günlerde Türkiye’deki
enerji arzının çeşitleneceğini, mevcut ve yeni arama çalışmalarıyla
kaynak potansiyelinin yeni fırsatlara dönüşeceğini düşünüyorum.
Kısacası, hem Türk ekonomisinin, hem de enerji sektörünün
geleceği çok parlak görünüyor” şeklinde konuşmasını
sürdürdü.

Erdem stated that a year without experiencing major changes in
the industry is being completed, during which the diesel and LPG
auto gas sales have increased steadily despite the downtrend of
gasoline consumption, and that the high increase recorded in
the diesel consumption is demonstrating the importance of the
automation system and the struggle against the unregistered
consumption. He indicated that the biggest problem of the
industry is again the unregistered products. Erdem made the
following assessments regarding the industry: “The major
problem of the fuel industry is the persistence of the No.10 Oil
consumption which has not decreased despite
the financial measures taken. In addition to
the economic and environmental damage it
causes, it also affects the operations wishing
to do a fair and qualified business. However
I also believe that the enactment of the new
draft Turkish Petroleum Law until the end of the
year will add impetus to the industry. We can
forecast a growth in the energy industry with
an increase of current activities of production
and exploration on land and sea as well as new
investments in the field of renewable energies
entering into the market”.

Erdem stated that the energy industry is far
more developed in Turkey compared to the
past: “Turkey is in a position to meet only a
small portion of its energy requirement from
its own resources. We can anticipate our
energy requirement to double as our economy
grows. The energy industry will function as
the leading industry in order for Turkey to take
part among the top ten largest economies worldwide in 2023.
I think very important projects will develop as Turkey is located
at the intersecting point of the energy corridors. As a matter
of fact, the cooperation established by Shell and the Turkish
Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) for the deep sea early exploration
and evaluation and the on land exploration work in the Southeast
Anatolia Region, has been a good example. In the upcoming days,
I think that the energy supply in Turkey will diversify and that the
resource potential will turn into new opportunities along with the
existing and new exploration works. In short, the future of both
the Turkish economy and the energy industry looks very bright”.
