Schneider Electric offers a range of refurbishment and repair services to extend
the life of transformers and kiosks. By partnering with Schneider Electric you can
gain full lifecycle support for your electrical distribution equipment and maximise

Level 1
Level 4
On-site inspection and condition assessment
Major repair
Inspection of the transformer at your premises followed by a written report
of our findings and recommendations. This includes:
>> visual inspection of external condition for faults and signs of damage
>> paint condition and corrosion
>> oil leaks; identify point of origin and cause
>> obtain samples of oil for testing (see oil testing options over the page).
Level 2
On-site repair
Example services:
>> Repair minor oil leaks in the tank or radiators.
>> Replace gaskets (requires lowering of oil level).
>> Touch-up paint work.
>> Inspect tap changer.
Level 3
Intermediate repair
The offer comprises the Intermediate repair, plus:
>> remove transformer core and coils
○ dry the core (to remove moisture from the
insulating papers)
○ carry out repairs to the core assembly
(as required)
>> replace failed components
(bushings, ancillary devices, etc.).
Level 5
End-of-life disposal
The offer ensures safe, environmentally friendly
disposal of the equipment. Hazardous materials
are extracted and disposed of by specialist
partners approved by Schneider Electric.
Maximum recycling of materials is achieved.
This is demonstrated by our reporting system to
provide confidence and assurance.
Undertaken at our transformer refurbishment facility:
>> Repair oil leaks in the tank or radiators.
>> Replace gaskets.
>> Re-paint using Schneider Electric approved paint system.
>> Test and replace tap changer as required.
>> Inspection and cleaning of bushings.
>> Electrical testing.

Oil testing services
Test A
PCBs
Transformer oil must be tested for polychlorinated
biphenyls (PCBs) before disposal.
Test B
Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA)
DGA testing evaluates the condition of the
transformer by the presence of gasses dissolved
in the oil. Whenever transformer oil is exposed to
thermal of electrical faults, the natural breakdown
process is greatly accelerated. During breakdown
of the oil, certain hydrocarbon based
gasses are produced in small quantities. The
magnitude of the fault and surrounding materials
will determine which gasses are produced.
Test C
Basic Condition Assessment
This comprises a suite of oil tests to indicate
the condition of the transformer. It includes
DGA (Test B), plus:
>> colour and visual examination
>> moisture content
>> interfacial tension
>> acid number
>> dielectric breakdown voltage.
Test D
Full Condition Assessment
This comprises an exhaustive suite of oil tests
to provide information on the overall condition
of the transformer. Using a proven technique it
interprets both the dissolved gas analysis and
fluid information to aid the diagnosis and
management of any faults. It includes Basic
Condition Assessment (Test C), plus:
>> dielectric dissipation factor
>> oxidation inhibitor
>> furans, with estimated degree
of polymerisation
>> particle profile.
