6. Ideally the large kindling should be burned until a thick bed of red embers is obtained. At<br />

that point, add cordwood fuel and continue to operate the draft control wide open until the<br />

fire is well established. Once the firebox is hot, the draft control can be partially closed by<br />

pushing the knob to adjust the intensity of the fire.<br />

Use Table 4.2 to adjust the draft control to the desired burn rate:<br />

Closing the draft control down too soon will lower combustion efficiency, and may result in<br />

creosote build-up in the chimney (which could lead to a chimney fire).<br />

CAUTION: THE ADJUSTMENT RANGE SHOULD NOT BE ALTERED FOR INCREASED FIRING FOR ANY REASON.<br />
