Obituaries - Rita Margaret Ewert EAST TROY - Rita Margaret Ewert, 69, passed<br />

away at her home on Saturday, April 24, 2004. She was born in Racine on<br />

September 22, 1934, to Aloyious and Marguarite (Nee: Brehm) Scholzen. Rita was<br />

married to James Ewert for 47 years. She was a Graduate of St. Mary's School of<br />

Nursing in Milwaukee and was a Registered Nurse. She recently worked at Bud and<br />

Bloom Garden Party floral shops in Mukwonago. She also was a member of St.<br />

Peter Catholic Church in East Troy. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.<br />

Survivors include her her husband, James Ewert; children, Daniel ( Cynthia) Ewert<br />

of Eagle, David (Lynn) Ewert of Big Bend, Therese (Paul) Hennessey of<br />

Mukwonago, Michael Ewert of Big Bend, Mary Ewert of Mukwonago, and Catherine<br />

(Karl) Robe of Mukwonago; grandchildren, Nick, Ken, James, Louis, Phoebe,<br />

Maggie, Max, Wyatt, Zane, and baby Robe; and brothers and sisters, Raymond<br />

(Janice) Venne of Fla., Mary Escarcega of Wash., Toni (Ray) Bertelsen of Union<br />

Grove, Carol (Paul) Herrenbruck of Mukwonago, Mary Ellen (Robert) Johnson of<br />

Racine, and Lorraine (Sid) Brooks of Wash. Funeral Services will be held at St.<br />

Peter Catholic Church, 1975 Beulah Avenue, East Troy, on Tuesday, April 27, 2004,<br />

at 7 p.m. with Rev Larry Chapman officiating. Visitation will be at the church on<br />

Tuesday from 4 p.m. until time of services. Burial will be at St. Peter Catholic<br />

Obituaries - Mae Marie Bodven UNION GROVE - Mae Marie Bodven, 77, of Union<br />

Grove, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Racine. She<br />

was born April 5, 1927, in Waterford to Clifford W. Sr. and Ruth (Nee: Savage)<br />

Noll. She spent her early life in Waterford and graduated from Union Grove High<br />

School in 1944. On July 2, 1964, she married Michael J. Bodven in Iowa. Following<br />

marriage they lived in Union Grove and together they owned and operated<br />

Bodven's Custom Upholstery from 1970 -1980. Michael preceded her in death May<br />

3, 1988. Mae was a member of the Union Grove Congregational United Church of<br />

Christ and the Women's Fellowship and Dorcas Daughters of the church. She was<br />

also a member of the Senior Citizens Group of Union Grove and the Secret Pal<br />

Group of Union Grove High School since 1943. Survivors include her step-son,<br />

Michael (Helen) Bodven of Kenosha; brother, Clifford (Ruth) Noll of Caledonia; five<br />

step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. She was<br />

preceded in death by her parents; husband; and step-son, Wayne Bodven. Funeral<br />

services will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at 7 p.m. at Union Grove<br />

Congregational UCC with Rev. Manda Stack officiating. Relatives and friends may<br />

meet with the family on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Church..<br />

Burial will take place at Union Grove Cemetery on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at<br />

10 a.m. Memorials to the Union Grove/Yorkville Rescue Squad have been<br />

Obituaries - Thomas 'Tom' Stublaski RACINE - Thomas 'Tom' Stubaski, 72, passed<br />

away unexpectedly, Saturday, April 24, 2004, at St. Mary's by the Lake Church<br />

while doing what he loved. Tom was born in Sturtevant, April 27, 1931, son of the<br />

late Thomas and Nathalie (Nee: Arnold) Stublaski. On May 17, 1952 in England he<br />

was united in marriage to Dawn West. Tom served in the United States Air Force<br />

during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Wisconsin Natural Gas for over 30<br />

years, retiring in 1991. Recently he was supervisor for Habitat for Humanity. Tom<br />

was an active member of St. Mary's by the Lake Catholic Church where he was<br />

instrumental in rebuilding the church, served on the common council and the<br />

building and grounds committee. He was also member of the EAA-Racine Chapter.<br />

Tom enjoyed flying, woodworking, and gardening, but above all he loved being<br />

with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.<br />

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-one years, Dawn; his nine children, Tom C.<br />

(Libby) Stublaski, Ed (Mary) Stublaski, Frances 'Fran' (Thomas) Wendt, Clem (Erin)<br />

Stublaski, all of Racine, Mary 'Poppy' (Dennis) Szukalski of St. Germaine, Rita<br />

(Doug) Radwill, Elizabeth (Daniel) Wendt, Ann 'Jo' (JR) Burkhammer, Steven<br />

(Heidi) Stublaski, all of Racine; 31 grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Veronica<br />

(Ernest) Tryba, Helen (Gerhardt) Schattner, Paul (Judy) Stublaski, Clem (Karen)<br />

Stublaski, LeRoy (Jean) Stublaski; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beverly<br />

Stublaski, Pete Long, Nibby Mulcare, Rita (Jack) Bell. In addition to his parents he<br />

was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and Charles; and sister, Angeline<br />

Long. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's by the Lake<br />

Catholic Church, 7605 Lakeshore Drive, Tuesday, April 27, 2004, 6 p.m. with Rev.<br />

Stephen J. Stradinger officiating. Private entombment will be held at Holy Cross<br />

Garden Mausoleum, Highway 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family<br />

at the church on Tuesday from 4 p.m.. until time of Mass. Memorials to the family<br />

Obituaries - Jose Aldo Chavez Sr. RACINE - Mr. Jose Aldo Chavez Sr., 53, died in<br />

St. Mary's Medical Center on Saturday, April 24, 2004. He was born in La Ceiba<br />

Honduras, on January 11, 1951, the son of the Hector and Justa (Nee: Castro)<br />

Chavez. He served with the United States Army for over 23 years retiring in 1993.<br />

Later, he was employed by Menards and Value Village. He was a longtime Soccer<br />

Referee and member of the American Legion. He had a special love for his family.<br />

Surviving are his children; Laura, Emily, Jose Jr. and Robert; his former wife, Mary<br />

Chavez Horning, all of Racine; his father and step-mother, Hector and Asuncion<br />

Chavez; his brothers and sisters; Antonio, Roberto, Norma, Magalia, and Miguel all<br />

in California. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives<br />

and friends. Mr. Chavez was preceded in death by his mother, Justa; and his<br />

brother Tito. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at St. Lucy Catholic Church,<br />

3101 Drexel Avenue on Tuesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. for the Funeral Mass, with<br />

Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. Visitation will be in the Church on Tuesday, from<br />

5 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Private burial, with full military honors, will be in<br />

Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove. Memorials have<br />

been suggested to the family to establish an educational fund for his sons, Jose Jr.<br />

Obituaries - Henry W. 'Hank' WilsonRACINE - Henry W. 'Hank' Wilson, 69, passed<br />

away on Friday, April 23, 2004, at his residence. Henry was born in Ewen, Mich.,<br />

October 8, 1934. Henry married Colleen O'Brien on January 30, 1972. He was a<br />

member of Operating Engineers Local 139 for 38 years. Later he worked for Maple<br />

Leaf Farms. Hank served in the 82ND Airborne during the Korean War. He was a<br />

member of the Masonic Lodge #65 Ontonagan, Mich. Hank will be greatly missed.<br />

Survivors include his wife, Colleen; son, Michael both of Racine; sister, Lollie (Joe)<br />

Wichterman of Maple Grove, Minn.; brothers, Patrick Wilson of Seattle, Wash. and<br />

Harry Wilson of Montana; sister, Beverly Monette of Wausau; mother-in-law,<br />

Dorothy O'Brien; brother-in-law, Patrick (Terrie) O'Brien; nieces, nephews, other<br />

relatives and dear friends. Henry was preceded in death by his son, David; and his<br />

brother, Kenneth. In accordance with Henry's wishes, cremation has taken place.<br />

Memorial services will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 4701 Erie Street,<br />

Monday, April 26, 2004, 5:30 p.m., with Rev. Terry McGugan officiating. Relatives<br />

and friends may meet with the family at the church from 5:30 p.m. until time of

Obituaries - Neil John Vail TUCSON, ARIZ - Neil John Vail, 75, died on New Year's<br />

Eve, 2003, in Tucson, Ariz., where he made his home the past five years. Born on<br />

Christmas Eve, he was the youngest child of Jesse and Edward Vail. His early<br />

education was in the Waterville, Minn., school system. After graduation from high<br />

school he enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country in Korea and<br />

Japan and benefit from the GI Bill of Rights in order to attend college. He<br />

graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., and began a teaching career<br />

in English at Park High School. After several years he transferred to Horlick High<br />

School where he became Chairman of the English Department. He subsequently<br />

joined the Administrative Staff at Racine Unified Schools as Director of<br />

Reading/Language Arts, retiring in 1988 after 34 years of service to the District.<br />

While teaching in Racine, he received a Master of Arts Degree in English from the<br />

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master of Arts Degree in reading from<br />

Cardinal Stritch college. He was a member of Sigma Delta, professional English<br />

fraternity; Pi Gamma Mu, National Social Studies Society; and Phi Delta Kappa,<br />

professional fraternity in education. Among many honors, Neil Vail received the<br />

Chisholm Award for Meritorious Service from the Wisconsin council of Teachers,<br />

where he served as Membership Chairman for many years. He was the lead coauthor<br />

of Daily Oral Language, a grades 1-12 educational program used currently<br />

in many school systems nationally and internationally. He was also a consultant to<br />

major educational textbook companies. He is remembered as an Instructor at the<br />

UW-Parkside, Carthage College, and UW-Milwaukee. He served as Acquisitions<br />

Chairman at Wustum Art Museum for many years. He is survived by his wife, Elda<br />

M. Vail of Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Dr. Louise M. Vail and partner Terry Graber of<br />

Littleton, Colo.; son Paul N. (Mary) Vail; three grandchildren, Sean, Anya, and<br />

Colin Vail of Encinitas, Calif.; a brother, Linden (Eunice) Vail of Waterville, Minn.;<br />

two sisters, Ruth (Eldo) Reed of Rochester, Minn., and Bernice (Ralph) Sheeny of<br />

Waterville, Minn.; two nieces and four nephews; and long-time friends, Joseph and<br />

Mary Jane Papenfuss and Dr. Joyce and John Degenhart, of Racine. Neil Vail is<br />

remembered by his many friends for his love of classical music, his bonsai<br />

collection, his Oriental and American Indian Art collection, travel, reading and the<br />

many Burmese cats who entered his life over the years. Please join his family at a<br />

Memorial Service in celebration of his life on May 1, 2004, at Olympia Brown<br />

Unitarian-Universalist Church at 6th and College, at 10 a.m. Memorials can be<br />

made to the Racine Art Museum, the American Lung Association, or a charity of<br />

your choice.<br />
