It my great pleasure to welcome all of you in Oradea for the 14th FINA Men’s Water
Polo World Cup to take place from July 27-August 1, 2010 in Oradea, Romania.
With the participation of our best teams, this occasion will be once more a milestone
in the promotion of this discipline. Water Polo is certainly part of the FINA strategy
to enhance the development of our aquatic discipline throughout the world and the
success of the men’s and women’s tournaments throughout our major competitions
is presently undeniable.
Water Polo is the oldest Olympic team sport and its main characteristics combine
team spirit and individual search for improvement. This philosophy will be present
during this competition and the participating players will be an example of fair-play
for the youth and all the fans of this sport in the five continents.
I would take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Romanian Water Polo
Federation, the Organising Committee and the local authorities for their hospitality
and support. Their professionalism, competence and enthusiasm will assure to our
best water polo teams an excellent memory of this World Cup.
Also, I would like to thank all the Sponsors, media and spectators for their continuous
devotion and help. Their action is certainly part of the success of this 14th FINA
Men’s Water Polo World Cup.
For all the teams participating in this World Cup, I wish them all the luck and the
best to win.

In 2006, the city of Oradea started successfully to organize european water polo
events with the L.E.N Juniors European Championships.
The achievement at a very good level of this sport event, with 16 teams participating,
very well appreciated and so Oradea was designated to staged more major water polo
events like: FINA Men’s Water Polo Qualification Tournament for Olympic Games 2008,
European Master Championship 2009, tournament of European Cups and the last but
not the least, in the best sport conditions: European Water Polo Championships 2010
group C Qualification Tournament, with our team on the first place.
As the Major of Oradea City, I am glad to see the sport activity in the Olympic swimming
pool “Ioan Alexandrescu” as well as in the 33 m pool, completely modernized ,which
is an encouraging one for us. The activity of learning and practicing swimming at the
amateur level in our facilities is very good and healthful for our citizens and in the
same time the height performance level in water polo in our seniors and juniors club
teams made us very proud ,by the excellent results in national and international
amended competitions
We received with great satisfaction the proposal of Romanian Water Polo Federation
to host this year, in Oradea the 14th edition of FINA Men’s Water Polo Cup.
I am sure that our city is the best choice and we are ready to stand at the level as
FINA demands for such a world competition.
We are pleased to welcome our quests, the best national water polo teams in the
world, the officials, delegates and referees , with all our hospitality, as we are always
happy to host important and major sport events in our city.
Wishing to all participants the best achievements in this competition, the promotion
of the dynamism and sport spectacle of the water polo sport and of course a very
pleasant stay in Oradea.

Dear Water Polo Friends,
It is a great pleasure for us that the FINA Bureau allocated the 14 th FINA Men’s Water
Polo World Cup 2010 to our organization and to Oradea City.
It is the first time that such an important event will be organized in our country and
we are proud to host it.
The Oradea Town Hall did an excellent job for water polo sport and give us a lot of
support. The new and modern swimming pool already staged important European
and world competition, starting 2006: European Water Polo Championships for
Juniors, European Cups Tournament, Qualification Tournaments for Olympic Games
and European Championships, Master Championships.
We also have to mention that the Oradea win for the 4 th consecutive time the senior
water polo championships with the men’s team CSM Frigoconti.
We are aware that will be an extraordinary sport event, a great promotion for water
polo.
All the participating National Teams, the best form Europe, Asia, Oceania and
Americas will be the main actors in this 7 days competition.
I will be glad and pleased to welcome you in Oradea and to wish to all participants a
lot of success and the best to win with fair play and sportivity.

About Oradea
Oradea, one of the beautiful cities of Eastern Europe, is the
entrance gate to Romania, on the Western border, and the
capital of the Bihor County. Located on the hills between Crisana
Plain and the foot of the Western Carpathians, on the banks of
the Crisul Repede River, the town blends nostalgic imprints of
the past, magic of nature and wind of change all together. Petit
Paris, as Oradea Mare used to be called in the early 20th century,
has the spirit of the belle epoque even today. This feeling is
rendered by the architectural Secession style that gives a special
elegance to this town, still preserving the atmosphere of the
turn of the last century. The town also suggests a long lasting
spirit of a community that, for centuries, has been placed at
the crossroads of trade routes, at the junction of civilizations,
circumscribed to both the Western and the Eastern Worlds.
Nowadays the community of Oradea reveals its awareness about
the historical heritage that shaped the development of the town
and helped with valuing the transitory interests of the political
forces in both Central and South-Eastern Europe. It also displays
a good example of cohabitation of different ethnic groups,
each of them contributing to the development of a stimulating
friendly environment, appropriate for personal achievements.
The location of the town, on the banks of the river Crisul Repede
and at the junction of the Western Plain and the lowest hill range
of the Apuseni Mountains on the one hand, and on the trade
route that linked Western, Central and South-Eastern Europe to
the Far East, on the other hand, helped Oradea to become an
important political, economical, religious and cultural center.
Since prehistoric
times, this region has been inhabited by a
native population, always ready to make contacts with the
human groups passing through, or setting in Oradea.

Official Competition and Training Pools
The official games will take place at the new Olympic
swimming pool built in 2005. The size of the swimmingpool
is 50 × 25 m. The tribunes are placed on each side
of the pools’ length and have a capacity of 1050 seats.
A new building was built last year near the pool and it
includes locker rooms for the teams and the referees,
a press centre, rooms for protocol, medical rooms etc.
The swimming-pool is indoors but it can be decovered
if the weather is hot.

Games 13 - 24 must be played to a conclusion. Accordingly, it may be necessary to apply Water Polo rules regarding extra time.
Beginning with game 13, the games schedule may be modified according to the games of the Romanian team.
For television space reason, Romania will always play at 17:00 hours.
The Management Committee of FINA Competitions may change the order and schedule of games to meet with the requirements of the
Host Federation and/or television provided that at least twenty four (24) hours notice is given.

Accomodation
Important
According to FINA contract for 14th FINA Men’s Water Polo World Cup 2010, Clause 5.7, the organizing federation shall
provide teams accommodation, room and full board including three meals per day for each team up to 18 persons per
delegation (including the referee) for eight (8) days and eight (8) nights.
As a consequence of above FINA rule, we will provide for each delegation 7 double and 4 single rooms. Referees will be
hosted at a sepparate hotel than the one used for national teams. Extra persons are welcomed but they will have to pay
their own accomodation.

accomodation in 7 double and 3 single rooms in a total
of 17 persons.
Prices for each extra person:
• single: 120 EUR (full board)
• double: 90 EUR (full board)
Continental Hotel is located in the center of Oradea, on the shores of Crisu Repede River, at 5 min walk of swimming
pools. You have quick access to the railway station, airport and to the European Road E60. You may accommodate in 168
rooms with air conditioning, completely-equipped bathrooms, minibar, hairdryer, phone, internet, adjustable thermostat,
cable TV. One may also accommodate in executive rooms and non-smokers rooms. Other features: restaurant with 120
places, swimming pool with geothermal water, massage, sauna. The hotel has 5 conference rooms equipped with flipchart,
projector, simultaneous translation, video & TV, screen.

Each delegation will be provided with full board in 1
single room in a total of 1 person.
A luxury hotel, hidden in the heart of the city away from the hustle and bustle, yet only few minutes away from the city
center. Hotel Maxim offers 37 rooms and 2 apartments elegantly furnished, with the ability to satisfy even the most posh
of expectations. The hotel’s restaurant combines a classy setting with refined aromas and delicate gramophone tunes. The
hotel also features a conference room, 3 meeting rooms, a wine cellar, a spa complete with sauna, jacuzzi, solarium and
fitness center, an indoor pool, a terrace and an underground parking with surveillance cameras.

Elite hotel is a luxury hotel, founded in 1998. It is placed in the midlle of the town, in a green and silent areea, at 2 min.

Romanian Water Polo Federation will take in charge
(accommodation and full board) for each participating
National Team composed of 18 persons (17 person as team
and 1 referee with the team) for a period of 8 days.
Any extra person and any extra day will be charged
separately (see Accomodation section and General Info >
Airtport Transfer).
Each team will receive of 7 double rooms (twin beds) and
3 single rooms.
Referees with the team will be accomodated at Maxim
