Outlet expert Cousland dies in Moscow bombing
Gordon Cousland,
39, one
of 37 people
killed in the Jan. 24
bombing at Domodedovo
Airport in Moscow,
had strong ties to
the Eastern European
outlet industry.
As a managing consultant
for the London Cousland
office of CACI, a global marketing and IT
company, Mr. Cousland had been a panelist
at the European Outlet Conference
held in Milan in October 2010, speaking
on managing information and transparency.
He was an expert in identifying
opportunities and in using metrics to
enhance decision making.

Aldridge’s wide-ranging marketing
experience includes campaign management,
celebrity management, media
strategy, event management, consumer
PR and corporate PR. He started his
career at Debenhams department stores,
then went onto senior management positions
with BAA Ltd (World Duty Free)
and most recently was with Hammer
Holdings, where he set up and launched
the new beauty and lifestyle brand, All
for Eve. The brand’s products are available
at John Lewis, Debenhams, Boots,
Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Fenwick
Group, and all major online beauty retailers.
The brand’s charity, Eve Appeal,
raises funds for gynecological cancer
research from a portion of its web sales.
While at Hammer Holdings Aldridge
managed corporate, retail, press and

Romania, Cousland was handling all
the site analysis for the developer’s 17
planned outlet centers in Moscow and
in St. Petersburg, Russia.
“From a personal view, it’s so sad,”
O’Reilly told VRN/IOJ. “He wasn’t
working for us on that particular visit,
otherwise it really would be unbearable.
I worked with Gordon for some years,
but aside from business, I have fond
memories of very enjoyable evenings
with him over a beer. Gordon’s untimely
death has caused great sadness within the
outlet industry and his wealth of experience
and unique personality will be sadly
missed.”

Realm appoints
center managers
at two centers
Retail asset manager Realm has
appointed new managers for
two of the company’s nine outlet
centers in the UK. Paul McCarthy
takes the helm at the 200,000-sf Freeport
Braintree Outlet Shopping Village,
and Jon Abbott steps in at the 145,000sf
Freeport Talke Outlet Centre, both
in England.
McCarthy previously
held senior commercial
positions at Heathrow
Airport and more
recently with a retail
consultancy. He will
work with the local
community, council
and retailers – among them Nike, Ted
Baker and Lacoste – to help make Freeport
Braintree, which opened in 1999, a
destination center.
Abbott held positions
for 10 years with
Marks & Spencer,
where he was involved
in site acquisition for
the Simply Foods
program. He joins the
Stoke on Trent center

Before becoming a consultant for CACI
in 2007, Mr. Cousland was director of
new business development for Datamonitor;
global account manager for Business
Monitor International, and global account
manager for Euromonitor International.
His recent assignment included working
on outlet-center projects in Belgium,
Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as
on restaurant, retail and shopping center
expansions in Germany, Poland, Romania
and the UK.
He is survived by a large family in
Scotland, a six-month-old daughter, and
his fiancé, whom he was to marry this
spring. `

Jamie Acheson
to its outlet fund
Jamie Acheson has joined
Henderson
Global Investors
as an asset
manager for its €1.3
billion European Outlet
Mall Fund (EOMF).
He was previously with
Colliers International
for six years on the
Acheson
retail development team, working largely
on shopping center development projects
in emerging markets, including North
Africa, the Far East and Eastern Europe.
Acheson became a member of the
Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors
in 2007. In 2010 he received the Young
Property Professional of the Year
award from Estates Gazette.
He will work directly with David
Williams, EOMF’s fund manager, who
says, “Jamie’s experience in development,
consultancy and leasing arrangement,
complements our existing team.
He has the energy and proven ability
to succeed, and I am confident that he
will provide the expertise necessary to
enhance the fund’s performance going
forward.” `
