Zentralabitur 2006 Englisch Lehrermaterial
Aufgabe I Leistungsfach Nachschreibtermin
• first two questions invite the reader to consider them his own
questions (identification)
• the last question is rather discomforting: indication that all is
not well in the country
Erwartungshorizont für eine ausreichende Leistung:
• quotation leads into the subject (novel about the problem of
integration)
• … establishes a contrast to the more comforting message of
the title
• … invites the reader to identify with the issues raised in the
quotation
3.
Erwartungshorizont für eine gute Leistung:
Students are expected to write a well-ordered text with appropriate
attention to detail and focus on three main aspects:
CONTENT
• author does not ignore / belittle problems mentioned by the
so-called “worriers“
• … puts the problems into perspective (balanced view)
• … adduces examples of regions and people which / who
stand for Americanisation
• photo could suggest: people look different, but outward appearance
does not give too much reason to be worried; caption
refers to the working of the “melting pot“: Americanisation
is possible
STRUCTURE
• succinct headline (suggesting: nothing to worry about — but
what is it that one could be worried about) and interesting
opening paragraphs capture the reader’s interest.
• problems are dealt with but considered to be results of
mainstream America’s approach to the topic
• the last part of the text stresses the favourable development
of Latino immigration (examples of successful Latinos)
• conclusion : question of the dominant language in the
South-West — for many Americans most worrying — is
dealt with in a positive way
STYLE
• mirrors attitude (tone): author’s aim (to show that Latino immigration
is not really anything to worry about but to feel at
ease with) is supported by stylistic (and other) devices:
• these make the text readable (e.g. sentence formation,
idiomatic usage)
• they show language-creativity (Mexifornia), and humour
(e.g. Ms Lopez shouldn’t have dumped Ben Affleck, ethnicity,
set against a nice bottom)
• they signal competence (quotations and supporting facts)
• they deflate opposing views (“worriers“) and boost his own
30%
Erwartungshorizont für eine ausreichende Leistung:
Students are expected to
• refer to the clarity of the author’s basic message
