Caterpillar Engine Plant:<br />

Currently under construction directly across I-10 from the subject site is<br />

the new Caterpillar Primary Manufacturing Facility. The 1 million square<br />

foot plant will occupy 180 acres and create 1,465 jobs in <strong>Seguin</strong>. Seventy<br />

percent of the engines produced in the plant will be exported to other<br />

parts of the world.<br />

Area Business Incentives:<br />

The City of <strong>Seguin</strong> is focused on growth and open to industry. The <strong>Seguin</strong><br />

Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) functions both as a 501 (c)<br />

(3) nonprofit organization and as a Type A corporation under Texas State<br />

tax law. Due to the 1989 amendment to The Development Corporation<br />

Act of 1979 the city has adopted a dedicated sales and use tax to fund<br />

industrial growth projects. A portion of <strong>Seguin</strong>’s sales tax (approximately<br />

$800,000 per year) goes to the SEDC, and provides economic incentives<br />

to new businesses coupled with the construction of State Highway 130,<br />

<strong>Seguin</strong> is poised to experience dramatic growth over the coming decade.<br />
