Don’t miss out on this whimsical class 

based on animal stories written by Eric

At our awesome oceanography class, 

we’ll learn fun-facts about dolphins, 

porpoises, octopus and jellyfish while 

creating a cool seashell craft!

huge collection of animal puppets and

hippopotamus, and lamb puppets while 

learning the basics of acting. We’ll 

giggle and laugh while playing theater 

games and designing crazy sock

Come and enjoy the story of The 

Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle, and 

then discuss the benefits of these 

beautiful insects in our environment.

watercolors to create a unique ladybug 

collage of these colorful insects in 

their natural habitat.

Disney® princesses named Cinderella,

the magic of Tinker Bell!) Uncover the 

strengths and backgrounds that make 

each princess unique before 

determining which princess is most like 

you! We’ll play a musical slipper game 

and design and decorate our own royal 

crown and wand with sequins, glitter, 

and feathers – and then supply the 

pixie dust!

Spectacular Seuss Science! 

(Ages 5-7) #TT18 

Join us in our laboratory and concoct a 

cool science project for kids! Based 

on the infamous Dr. Seuss story 

entitled Bartholomew and the Oobleck, 

our crazy science class will have us 

giggling and laughing while making and 

playing with the unique mixture! Using 

some kitchen products, we’ll learn how 

to create an oobleck recipe that’s sure 

to offer hours of entertainment. After 

hearing the story and conducting the 

experiment, we’ll investigate the 

difference between two types of 

matter: solids and liquids!

Pajama Party: Getting Along With

Berenstain Bears written by Stan and 

Jan Berenstain. After hearing about 

the crazy antics of Brother and 

Sister, we’ll make an art project and 

play a game relating to friendship.

abilities. Using crayons, markers, and 

watercolors, let us begin with one dot 

and see where it takes us on our 

artistic journey.

Yertle the Turtle (Ages 6-8) #TT23 

Discover the story of Yertle the Turtle 

– the “King of the Pond” who always 

wants more! Find out why this greedy 

king turtle chooses to stack all of his 

subjects upon one another in order for 

him to see and build a bigger kingdom. 

Our lively instructor will have us 

creating “nutty” turtles after 

competing in a few wacky stacking 

games of our own. Don’t miss out on 

learning valuable lessons in humility 

from the infamous Dr. Seuss!

sample some delicious food, find out 

about Fat Tuesday, and join our fun at 

this ultimate Louisiana party!

Mexican Fiesta

Travel south of the 

border with us and 

uncover some 

different games, 

crafts and 

activities that Mexican children enjoy. 

We’ll begin by designing our own paper 

flag decorations called papel picado. 

We’ll also play a game called 

matamoscas along with a fun, yet 

challenging, cactus ring toss. Let’s 

round out our afternoon by singing the 

piñata song, eating an authentic snack, 

decorating the piñata stick and 

breaking a real piñata!

French Soiree

the pond to the

historic country of 

France. Discover

it means to get “fished” on a certain 

spring day!) Join us and celebrate the 

Festival of Music and France’s 

Independence Day by enjoying some 

delicious French foods, games and 

activities. It’s a class like no other – 

loaded with French culture, history and 

fun-facts. Venez nombraos à la soirée 

française!

It’s Easy Being Green (Ages 8 & up)

After taking our eco-friendly class 

you’ll look at recycling (also known as 

up-cycling) in a whole new way. Learn 

how to make something new out of 

something old by just using your 

creativity and imagination! We’ll 

design a cool new bracelet from an old 

plastic bottle, a bowl from wrapping 

paper, and a useful bag out of an old 

tee-shirt. Uncover ways to clean-up our 

environment by being conscientious 

about what we throw away! (Please 

bring one old clean tee-shirt and we’ll 

supply the rest.)

Summer Landscape Collage 

(Ages 8-10) #LL37 

Let’s create a charming summer village 

scene using textured papers and 

watercolor paints. Learn how to create 

handmade textured paper before 

cutting it into various shapes and 

patterns for our village of houses. 

Using crayons, markers and a variety 

of objects, we’ll create a landscape 

collage and learn about foreground, 

middle ground, and background 

placement. Our artistic collage will 

make a one-of-a-kind village landscape 

that you’ll be proud to show your family 

and friends.

Australian Adventure (Ages 7-9)

Gday Mate! Travel “down under” to the 

exotic continent of Australia and learn 

some basic Aussie lingo. Discover 

unique animals that inhabit this 

continent – like wombats, wallabies, 

dingos, and koalas! We’ll even learn 

about the Aborigines who still live in 

the Outback of Australia today. Get a 

hands-on look at authentic boomerangs 

and listen to Australian didgeridoo 

music while creating rock art based on 

historical Australian cave paintings!

Watercolor Jellyfish (Ages 7-9)

Join our hands-on 

art class and 

create a beautiful 

jellyfish painting 

by dripping, 

splattering, and

their natural habitat. Chalk pastels will 

be used to add detail and finishing 

touches at this class created

impact on our nation! At the end of

popular in western PA!

Calling all young painters with creative 

minds! Using oil and watercolor paints, 

we’ll create an underwater seascape 

loaded with fish, sea animals, coral, 

and seaweed. Discover how the size 

and relationship of marine life can be 

painted to show distance. Our 

imaginations will help us paint a 

variety of sea creatures into our oneof-a-kind 

masterpiece that we’ll be 

proud to display!

the Pitt-Johnstown 

Nature Trail in search 

of plants, ferns, and 

trees. We’ll even do 

some animal identification along the

while collecting, creating and labeling 

our very own collection of items found 

on the trail. Become one with nature 

today! (Wear comfortable shoes and 

bring along a cool drink and snack to 

enjoy on our break.)

Weaving WOW! (Ages 8 & up) #LL39 

Unravel some fun and create awesome 

weavings in new and interesting ways. 

We’ll use fabric, yarn and our 

imaginations to make unique items to 

decorate your room. A branch will 

become a colorful wall-hanging while a 

plastic bottle might become a fuzzy 

desk caddy. We’ll even learn how to 

weave an actual rug! (Please bring 

three old clean tee-shirts.)

Star Search (Ages 8 & up) #LL40 

Discover why the sky is the limit at our 

class about stars, constellations, and 

folktales. Learn how to identify 

popular star patterns like the Big 

Dipper, Little Dipper, and Orion. We’ll 

even hear folktales about how the star 

patterns were created. Bring your 

binoculars, telescopes, flashlights, and 

blankets to the last class for some 

stargazing fun –

finished seascape by adding a sailboat,

border to make a scrumptious Mexican 

wedding cookie called curenitos that 

gets dusted with powdered sugar. Take 

home samples to impress your family!

Join us in the kitchen when we concoct 

some daffy dough using a variety of 

household ingredients. We’ll enjoy 

some stretchy squishy fun when we mix 

and roll some cool Flubber and colorful 

Kool-Aid dough. Don’t miss out on 

making and eating our very own soft 

edible pretzels – topped with cinnamon, 

sugar or salt. We’ll let our taste-buds 

decide!

Crazy Cupcakes

Crank up your 

imagination and 

decorate your 

cupcakes to look like 

your favorite Sesame 

Street character, 

animal or flower. We’ll supply the

trimmings, so you’ll just need to bring 

your creative ideas to class. If you 

enjoy eating cupcakes, just imagine the 

fun of decorating them first!

Office Hours 

Our office is open Monday through Friday, 

8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note 

that we will have limited office hours 

during the week of July 9-13 (LEARN 

2012). The campus will be closed on 

Wednesday, July 4, for Independence 

Day. 

Refunds 

Refunds will be issued in the following 

situations: 

Course is canceled by the University, 

or 

Withdrawal from an activity occurs 

on or before the payment deadline. 

Refunds requested after the payment 

deadline (but before the first class meeting) 

will be subject to a 50% cancellation 

fee. No refunds will be issued after 

the first class. Individuals awaiting a 

refund should allow three weeks for 

processing. (Credit card refunds will 

be issued in the form of a credit to your 

account.) 

Cancellation of Programs 

Non-credit programs are subject to 

cancellation by the University for justifiable 

reasons such as insufficient enrollment, 

in which case a full refund 

will be issued.
