• Members are prohibited from placing items in a day locker and
SHEERR POOL GUIDELINES
The Sheerr Pool is open for recreational swim during the posted hours.
It is recommended to check the Department of Recreation website on a
regular basis for updated information in regards to altered pool hours.
The following guidelines apply while using the pool:
• The use of the Sheerr Pool and on-deck sauna is prohibited unless
supervised by a Department of Recreation lifeguard. Lifeguards have
final authority on all matters in the pool area.
• Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied to the pool and
be directly supervised by an adult parent/guardian at all times. If the
child can swim, the adult parent/guardian must be at the pool side. If
the child cannot swim, the adult parent/guardian must be in the water
with his or her child. Children that are not potty-trained must wear
waterproof diapers, such as Swimmers.
• Appropriate swimming attire is required. Thongs and street clothes
are prohibited. Please use the locker room facilities to change, not the
bleachers.
• The pool temperature will be kept at 79 degrees from September
through February.
From March to August, the pool will be kept at 82 degrees.
• Circle swimming is required when more than two swimmers are in
lane. Circle swimming in a lap lane is similar to driving a car; you
need to stay on the right side of the lanes at all times and swim in a
counterclockwise direction.
• Lanes in Sheerr Pool are designated for slow, medium, and fast-paced
swimmers. Know who you are and what you are capable of doing as a
swimmer. Please choose a lane where fellow swimmers are at a similar
skill level as yours. If you are unsure of which lane to use, please feel
free to ask the lifeguard.
• The amount of equipment that can enhance your workout is endless.
When stopping to put equipment on or take equipment off, be aware of
others and take care not to interrupt others while they are swimming.
PENN CLUB SPOTLIGHT
The Ice Hockey and Water Polo clubs have seen success outside
of competing this past year. Both Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey
and Water Polo clubs continue to have a rich history by the creation
of alumni boards to help support them throughout the season. A
strong spring mentoring event for both programs helped guide
the students for endless possibilities. The Ice Hockey and Water
Polo alumni boards helped raised funds to support the programs
to travel and compete in high levels regionally and nationally. On
behalf of the department of Recreation, we would like to sincerely
thank Steve Sokolow C77’ (Chairman, Water Polo Alumni Board)
and Ross Giambalvo C02’ (Chairman, Ice Hockey Alumni Board)
for their timeless efforts and support.
• Lane lines are expensive. Please do not hang on the lane lines between
sets or after workouts.
• Showers are required before entering the pool.
• Always enter the water feet first. Make sure you are aware of the water
depth and others swimming while entering or exiting the pool.
• Teaching lessons for personal gain is not permitted.
SAUNA GUIDELINES
• The Pottruck Center houses a dry sauna at the Sheerr Pool.
• The sauna is open during recreational swim hours only.
• Pouring water on the sauna rocks or tampering with the heat sensor
is prohibited.
• The sauna is kept at 160 degrees.
• Proper attire is required to use the sauna; boxers do not constitute
proper attire.
• Patrons should not consume any alcoholic beverages prior to entering
the Sauna as this practice can be hazardous to your health.
