$107k Grossed at
PRC Benefit Auction
The 2005 PRC Benefit Auction was a resounding
success. With over 300 people thoroughly
enjoying themselves throughout the evening,
over $107,000 was raised for the PRC’s programming—$12,000
more than the successful
2004 auction. Representing nearly 40% of
our annual budget, this income will allow
us to produce the exhibitions, education
programming, and resources that define the
PRC’s important role within the photography
community. Of course, this success is entirely
due to the incredible generosity of the businesses,
collectors, volunteers, and, most of all,
artists, who selflessly contributed to this event.
We are honored and thankful for their support,
and look forward to another successful
event in 2006!
Education Program
Challenge a Success
Thanks to contributions from nearly 80
friends of the PRC, including the matching
gift of our angelic anonymous supporter, more
than $83,000 was raised to fund education
programming at the PRC! In addition to
allowing us to hire Education Coordinator
Michael Christiano, it allows us to further
enhance and expand our adult education
programming, while developing new youth
education programming. Bravo to all of you
who made this campaign a resounding success.
PRC Bids Farewell to
Marv Cook
While most members of the PRC’s Board
of Directors are identifiable figures in the
photography/arts community, Boston University’s
longtime Vice President of Planning,
Budgeting and Information Marv Cook has
been a somewhat of a less recognizable force.
Appointed to the Board by BU in 1996, Marv
joined the PRC with little knowledge
of photography. Nevertheless, few people have
contributed more to the organization over the
past 10 years. A finance guru, Marv worked
with the staff to hone and guide the organization’s
budget practices. In addition, Marv
has served as an invaluable liaison between
BU and the PRC—lending his guidance on a
gamut of activities. As he begins a well-earned
retirement after three decades at BU, all of us
here at the PRC wish him well and thank him
for all of his hard work.
Designer Out, Designer In
After designing each issue of in the loupe since
its redesign in November 2001, artist Emily
Gallardo is hanging up her mouse due to time
constraints and her burgeoning hand-made
greeting card business. Emily’s keen design
sense has been appreciated by all of us over
the past 4 years. While she will be missed,
we wish her continued success! Taking over
design duties for Emily is Todd Fairchild. A
photographer himself, Todd is excited to dive
in; this January/February issue is his maiden
in the loupe design. For more information on
Todd, visit www.toddfairchild.com.
Bookstore Now Open
Well, a “bookstore” may be an overstatement.
Truly, it is a bookcase in the PRC lobby.
Nevertheless, the PRC is now selling various
titles, old and new, including signed copies
of publications from recent book signings.
Support the PRC while supplementing your
monograph collection. Stop by the PRC to
see what’s available.
PRC Installation Hours
Please note that the PRC will be open by
appointment only January 23-February 2 due
to the installation of DOCUMENT. See page 3
for exhibition details.
