Master's Degree and Ph.D. Degree Programs Master's Degree and Ph.D. Degree Programs Programs introduction Master's Program: Students are required to complete the curriculum between 2-3 years, fulfill the designated credits, complete the master's thesis and defend of it in front of a panel of experts. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate along with the Master's degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee. Doctorate Program: Students are required to complete the curriculum between 4-6 years (in normal circumstances), fulfill the designated number of credits, conduct research, complete the doctoral thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate with the doctoral degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee. Note that there are only full-time courses offered for international students currently. Application prerequisites Master's program: Applicants must be non- Chinese citizens with a valid passport, under the age of 40, have attained a bachelor's degree. Doctorate program: Applicants must be non- Chinese citizens with a valid passport, under the age of 45, have attained a master's degree. Application Process Register your details on http://isao.pku.edu.cn/ ooirr. Fill in the application form and submit and also print a hardcopy for reference. Foreign Student to submit Application Materials and Application Fee to the PKU Foreign Students Office. Foreign Students Office will check and verify the submitted application materials. Successful Applying Students Application Materials will be passed on to the relevant subject Department. Application materials will be re-verified and if successful invited to examination. Peking University Application Form for International Students (Master and Ph.D. Programs) with a photograph fixed. Please visit http://isao.pku.edu.cn/ooirr, fill in the application form and submit, then print a hardcopy for reference. 2. A personal resume (800 words for master program, 1500 words for doctorate program, must be in Chinese.) The format of the resume can be downloaded at http://www. oir.pku.edu.cn/ 3. Graduation certificate and degree diploma (Students expecting to graduate should provide an official letter stating expected graduation date), must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English 4. Official transcripts of your academic achievement up to the present, including courses taken and standard achieved, must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English 5. Two recommendation letters from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. At least one of them should have knowledge of your recent academic work. The format of the recommendation letter must be original documents either in Chinese or English. The format of the reference letters can be downloaded at http://www.oir.pku.edu.cn/ 6. A copy of your HSK results: Candidates for Subjects of Sciences: level 6 or above is required Candidates for Subjects of Humanities, Economics, Management and Education: level 8 or above is required Please note the requirements of language proficiency for English-teaching programs please refer to the program information. 7. Table of contents and abstracts of your academic publications and any other original achievement in your field 8. One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary) 9. Other materials required by the specific school or department you apply to. Note: Two copies of all application materials are required, one original and one duplicate. Please hand in personally or sent them by post to International Students Division of Peking University (The envelope must be marked ‘Application for Graduate Admission’). All the application materials would not be returned. Note: PKU Students who have gained exemption from the Graduate Entrance Exam, please supply the documents listed under 1,3 and 7 above and proof of exemption supplied by the relevant Department. Application Fee: 800 RMB in cash or by Yinlian bank card. Any other currency or travel check would not be accepted. The application fee is not refundable. General Visiting Student Program Program introduction An overseas student wishing to study at Peking University for up to a year but not for a degree may be admitted as a General Visiting Student. Candidates must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study at their own university. If your Chinese proficiency does not meet the required standard of your target course of study, you are suggested to study Chinese in the International College for Chinese Language Studies for one or two semesters before entering the department. Application prerequisites: Applicants must be non- Chinese citizens with a valid passport, above the age of 18 and under the age of 45, have completed at least one year of undergraduate study at their own university. Application Process: 1. On-Line registration. 1.1. Please register your details on http://isao.pku.edu.cn/ooirr . Please fill in the application form and submit and also print a hardcopy for reference. 2. Submit Application Materials. 2.1. After completing the Peking University Application Form for International Students on-line please print and attach a passport-style photograph. 2.2. Certification of highest degree attained, and official academic transcripts (original documents or Certified copies in Chinese or English). 2.3. Two letters of reference from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. The recommendation letter must be the original document, either in Chinese or English, and not a copy, scan or email. 2.4. Certificate of Chinese proficiency level e.g. HSK (If applicable). 2.5. One photocopy of your current, valid passport (personal details page) (passport type must be ordinary). Note: Your applications documents will not be returned. When to apply: Application window is March 8 -31, 2010. Application fee: 400RMB in cash or Yinlian bank card. Foreign currency or check is not acceptable. This fee is nonrefundable. Note: Applications with incomplete materials or without the application fee will not be considered. Admission: Admission will be determined according to your educational background and the academic achievement.
