Programs introduction<br />

Master's Program: Students are required to<br />

complete the curriculum between 2-3 years,<br />

fulfill the designated credits, complete the<br />

master's thesis and defend of it in front of<br />

a panel of experts. Successful graduates will<br />

receive a graduation certificate along with the<br />

Master's degree, according to the regulation of<br />

the Degree Committee.<br />

Doctorate Program: Students are required to<br />

complete the curriculum between 4-6 years (in<br />

normal circumstances), fulfill the designated<br />

number of credits, conduct research, complete<br />

the doctoral thesis and defend it in front<br />

of a panel of experts. Successful graduates<br />

will receive a graduation certificate with the<br />

doctoral degree, according to the regulation of<br />

the Degree Committee.<br />

Note that there are only full-time courses offered<br />

for international students currently.<br />

Application prerequisites<br />

Master's program: Applicants must be non-<br />

Chinese citizens with a valid passport, under<br />

the age of 40, have attained a bachelor's degree.<br />

Doctorate program: Applicants must be non-<br />

Chinese citizens with a valid passport, under<br />

the age of 45, have attained a master's degree.<br />

ooirr. Fill in the application form and submit<br />

and also print a hardcopy for reference.<br />

Application materials<br />

1. Peking University Application Form for International<br />

Students (Master and Ph.D. Programs) with a photograph<br />

fixed. Please visit http://isao.pku.edu.cn/ooirr, fill in the<br />

application form and submit, then print a hardcopy for<br />

reference.<br />

2. A personal resume (800 words for master program, 1500<br />

words for doctorate program, must be in Chinese.) The<br />

format of the resume can be downloaded at http://www.<br />

oir.pku.edu.cn/<br />

3. Graduation certificate and degree diploma (Students<br />

expecting to graduate should provide an official letter<br />

stating expected graduation date), must be original<br />

documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English<br />

4. Official transcripts of your academic achievement up to<br />

the present, including courses taken and standard achieved,<br />

must be original documents or certified copies either in<br />

Chinese or English<br />

5. Two recommendation letters from your referees. The<br />

referees should be professors or persons with relevant<br />

academic title. At least one of them should have knowledge<br />

of your recent academic work. The format of the<br />

recommendation letter must be original documents either<br />

in Chinese or English. The format of the reference letters<br />

can be downloaded at http://www.oir.pku.edu.cn/<br />

6. A copy of your HSK results:<br />

Candidates for Subjects of Sciences: level 6 or above is<br />

required<br />

Candidates for Subjects of Humanities, Economics,<br />

Management and Education: level 8 or above is required<br />

Please note the requirements of language proficiency for<br />

English-teaching programs please refer to the program<br />

information.<br />

7. Table of contents and abstracts of your academic<br />

publications and any other original achievement in your<br />

field<br />

8. One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type<br />

must be ordinary)<br />

9. Other materials required by the specific school or<br />

department you apply to.<br />

Note: Two copies of all application materials are required, one<br />

original and one duplicate. Please hand in personally or sent<br />

them by post to International Students Division of Peking<br />

University (The envelope must be marked ‘Application for<br />

Graduate Admission’). All the application materials would not<br />

be returned.<br />

Note: PKU Students who have gained exemption from the<br />

Graduate Entrance Exam, please supply the documents listed<br />

under 1,3 and 7 above and proof of exemption supplied by the<br />

relevant Department.<br />

Application Fee: 800 RMB in cash or by Yinlian bank card.<br />

Any other currency or travel check would not be accepted. The<br />

application fee is not refundable.<br />

Please note that incomplete application materials or<br />

application without application fee will not be processed.<br />

Application Period: October 15, 2009 to December 18,<br />

2009. Please make sure mailed materials arrive before the<br />

deadline.<br />

choose 4 research directions between 2 similar majors within<br />

Interview: Once proved qualified, the application materials<br />

will be sent to the department or faculty where you wish to<br />

study. They will consider your application and contact the<br />

qualified students to attend the interview before end of March<br />

2009.<br />
