COURSE & ACTIVITY BROCHURE 2015

Featured Artist
The Piece – Preservation
This art piece speaks of patterns of
change and preservation. My artwork was
created from umbrella tree fronds that I
collected from my garden. My inspiration
is seeing the beauty and the possibility in
the simple things, things that would be
discarded or thrown away.
Dress making patterns, garden
waste from umbrella tree, wooden
spool from tip
The Artist – Michelle Reed
(L-R: Julie Sutton, Michelle Reed, Aaron Hudson)
I started my studies at Seaforth TAFE
where I studied fine arts and art
photography. I was then accepted
into Queensland College of Art where
I completed a Bachelor of Visual Art,
majoring in photography. I have been
teaching at the Tramshed at Narrabeen
for 15 years and will continue in 2015,
teaching art to toddlers and school
children within my business, Kinder
Art. I am inspired by everything around
me. I love to work with found items or
vegetation to create new and exciting
pieces. In a nutshell, I live and breathe art.

Zumba Fitness
Beacon Hill War Memorial Hall
Monday 9.30am
What are Zumba Fitness benefits Considering
Zumba’s lively music, laid-back atmosphere and
easy dance steps, it is more of a good time than an
exercise class, an incredibly fun workshop.
Zumba steps are designed simple enough for most
people to follow and master. There are a limited
number of steps per song, so the choreography
is not so complicated that the participant has to
concentrate on doing them at the expense of
enjoyment.
Zumba works the whole body, including the arms
and legs. It helps to strengthen the body’s core
and slim down body, all while doing basic moves.
Depression and Anxiety Self-Care
Support Group
Forestville Community Centre (Lorikeet Room)
Friday 9.30am
Depression and anxiety are common mental
issues in our community. A key challenge for those
experiencing anxiety or depression is isolation…
the idea that they are alone; everyone else has
it “together”. Many believe that if they hide
themselves, “suck it up” and just try harder they
will begin to feel better. Research shows that
these approaches make a difference for a while
but are not a long term solution.
38

Awaken your mind, body and soul.

This group provides a safe, supportive
environment to share, listen, feel heard, and
learn to feel different feelings, to see self in
others and to improve your individual self-care.
The group is facilitated by an experienced
therapist.
It takes courage to do something for yourself
when you are experiencing anxiety and/or
depression. Everyone in this group understands
that, so come along in all your imperfection
and share the space with those who truly “get”
where you are.
