<strong>Mississauga</strong> <strong>Celebrates</strong> <strong>Queen</strong> <strong>Elizabeth</strong> II’s <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Jubilee</strong><br />

Community Leaders and Contributors in Health Care Honoured<br />

At a <strong>Queen</strong>’s Park ceremony on August 24, The Hon. Harinder Takhar, MPP for <strong>Mississauga</strong>-Erindale and<br />

Minister of Government Services, presented <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Jubilee</strong> medals to several <strong>Mississauga</strong> leaders who have<br />

made exceptional contributions to their community, province and country.<br />

The medal pays special tribute to <strong>Queen</strong> <strong>Elizabeth</strong> II’s 60 years on the throne and honours her life-long<br />

commitment to her responsibilities. This commemorative medal provides an opportunity to recognize those<br />

individuals whose achievements have benefitted their communities, organizations and country. Ontario is<br />

awarding over 2,000 outstanding Canadians with <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Jubilee</strong> Medals.<br />

The following individuals recently received the <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Jubilee</strong> Medal in recognition of their commitment and<br />

contribution in the field of health care:<br />

Michelle DiEmanuele, President and CEO of The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre. Previously,<br />

DiEmanuele served the Government of Ontario as a Deputy Minister and Associate Secretary of Cabinet, Chair of<br />

the Public Service Commission and other public institutions. She is in the Hall of Fame of Canada’s Top 100 most<br />

Powerful Women and earned Top 40 Under 40 recognition. Her commitment to public service includes delivering<br />

results in health care, social services and justice. She has been instrumental in leading the merger of the two<br />

hospitals in <strong>Mississauga</strong> and realizing operational efficiencies that benefit the entire community. DiEmanuele’s<br />

hard work, dedication and expertise will help to better serve the health care needs of <strong>Mississauga</strong> residents in the<br />

years to come.<br />

Dr. Barbara Clive, Internal Medicine and Geriatrics at The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre.<br />

Dr. Clive has held numerous leadership roles at The Credit Valley Hospital site since joining the staff in 1986,<br />

including: Medical Director of Rehabilitation, Continuing Care Program and, Chief of Medical Staff. In addition, Dr.<br />

Clive has served as the Geriatric Lead of <strong>Mississauga</strong> Halton LHIN. Dr. Clive has done extensive work with the<br />

community, including hospitals, health service providers and consumers to develop a short- and long-term<br />

strategy for Specialized Geriatric Services in the <strong>Mississauga</strong>-Halton LHIN. Dr. Clive brings her experience and<br />

expertise from the front-line day-to-day care of seniors and their families to the advisory, teaching and planning<br />

tables to which she contributes. Dr. Clive has also served on the Board of Directors at The Credit Valley Hospital.<br />

Dr. Colin Saldanha, Family physician. Dr. Saldanha has been extensively involved in social justice, poverty<br />

reduction, policing, immigration and race relations, mentorship, public policy and health awareness issues. In<br />

recognition of his long standing involvement in his local community, he has received the Canada 125 Medal from<br />

the Governor General of Canada, the Sam McCallion Community Award from the <strong>Mississauga</strong> Board of Trade,<br />

and The Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International. He has also been the <strong>Mississauga</strong> Citizen of the Year<br />

2010. Dr. Saldanha, currently a Board member of The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation, is a passionate<br />

physician who dedicates his time for the benefit of his community.<br />

Vijay Kanwar, co-founder of KMH Cardiology and Diagnostic Centres. Most significant among his numerous<br />

contributions to the community is his gift, along with his wife Neena, of $5 million to The Credit Valley Hospital<br />

Foundation. He has been recognized for his accomplishments on numerous occasions, including the Ernst &<br />

Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Health Sciences and the New Pioneer Award in 2009. As a role model<br />

to current leaders and future generations, Kanwar contributes on the Board of Directors of several Canadian<br />

businesses, academic, cultural, sports and youth focused organizations that enable others to achieve.<br />

Jim Murray, local businessman and civic community leader. He has devoted countless volunteer hours in<br />

the community helping the following organizations: The Credit Valley Hospital, Sheridan College,<br />

<strong>Mississauga</strong> Living Arts Centre, Peel Regional Police Services Board, the Inaugural Board of the Peel<br />

Children’s Aid Foundation, <strong>Mississauga</strong> Sports Council, the Mayor’s Gala and the Hazel McCallion<br />

Foundation for the Arts, Heritage and Culture. Murray is also a recipient of numerous awards for his<br />

significant contribution to the community, including the Kinsmen Lifetime Achievement Award, Outstanding<br />

Young Citizen of <strong>Mississauga</strong> (1981), the Gordon S. Shipp Citizen of the Year (1996), and the <strong>Queen</strong>’s<br />

<strong>Jubilee</strong> Medal (2002).<br />
