Reaching Out
in Love
Are you looking for ways to
minister to others As believers,
our desire is to serve other
people—especially the brethren.
However, we may not always be
aware of the opportunities around
us.
Sometimes ministry opportunities
are very simple, like picking
up the phone to call someone we
want to encourage.
Ministering to others may be
as simple as coming to church or
the Bible Fellowship Hour a bit
early to visit with people and
encourage them in their walk with
the Lord.
Another simple way to
minister is to invite a friend to
come with us to an event or to sit
with us in church. Ministering to
loved ones who are far away, can
be as simple as sharing what the

Lord is doing in our life through a
letter or e-mail. This is an inexpensive
way to keep in touch, and
today almost everyone has e-mail.
Reaching out to show we care
is not difficult and everyone needs
to be encouraged at times. A Bible
passage that sums it all up is
Hebrews 10:23-25, “Let us hold
fast the confession of our hope
without wavering, for He who
promised is faithful; and let us
consider how to stimulate one
another to love and good deeds,
not forsaking our own assembling
together, as is the habit of some,
but encouraging one another; and
all the more as you see the day
drawing near.”
The early Christians needed to
be encouraged just like we do. Let
each of us take the aggressive
attitude and prepare for our
ministry to others. God can use us
in unexpected ways as we prepare
our hearts and desire to be sensitive
to His leading.
One day in heaven we may be
amazed to discover that a pat on
the back was exactly what our
brother or sister needed to fulfill
the work God had for him or her
that day.

Raising Children Who Love God
We often hear “kids don’t
come with a manual,” which is
true, but God’s Word, our
“manual for life,” has much to say
about raising children. As we are
guiding our children through life,
we must keep them in prayer and
search God’s Word for wisdom in
raising them. Consider what God
says about this very important job
He has given us:
To Teach
“And these words, which I am
commanding you today, shall be
on your heart . . . and you shall
teach them diligently to your sons
and shall talk of them when you
sit in your house and when you
walk by the way and when you lie
down and when you rise up”
(Deuteronomy 6:6,7).
“When your son asks you in
time to come, saying, ‘What do
the testimonies and the statues
and the judgments mean which
the Lord our God commanded
you’ . . . then you shall say to
your son, ‘We were slaves to
Pharaoh in Egypt; and the Lord
brought us from Egypt with a
mighty hand’” (Deuteronomy
6:20-25).
To Train
“Train up a child in the way he
should go, even when he is old he will
not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

“It is the living who give
thanks to Thee, as I do today; a
father tells his sons about Thy
faithfulness” (Isaiah 38:19).
To Provide For
“I will not be a burden to you;
I do not seek what is yours, but
you; for children are not responsible
to save up for their parents,
but parents for their children” (2
Corinthians 12:14).
To Nurture
“Fathers, do not provoke your
children to anger; but bring them
up in the discipline and instruction
of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
“Fathers, do not exasperate
your children, that they may not
lose heart” (Colossians 3:21).
To Manage
“Keeping his children under
control with all dignity” (1
Timothy 3:4).
“Good managers of their
children and their own household”
(1 Timothy 3:12).
To Love
“That they may encourage the
young women to love their
husbands, to love their children”
(Titus 2:4).
To Be Godly Examples
“If you will walk before Me

as your father David walked, in
integrity of heart and uprightness,
doing according to all that I have
commanded you and will keep
My statutes and My ordinances, .
. . then I will establish the throne
of your kingdom over Israel
forever” (1 Kings 9:4).
“And the Lord was with
Jehoshaphat because he followed
the example of his father David’s
earlier days” (2 Chronicles 17:3).
“And he walked in the way of
his father Asa and did not depart
from it, doing right in the sight of
the Lord” (2 Chronicles 20:32).
“And [Uzziah] did right in the
sight of the Lord, according to all
that his father Amaziah had done”
(2 Chronicles 26:4).
“And [Jotham] did right in the
sight of the Lord, according to all
that his father Uzziah had done”
(2 Chronicles 27:2).
“For I am mindful of the faith
within you, which first dwelt in
your grandmother Lois, and your
mother Eunice, and I am sure that
it is in you as well” (2 Timothy
1:5).
