AGES Focus Meeting 2013 The Surgery of Obstetrics | 3
WELCOME
CONFERENCE CHAIRS
The Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery Society is excited to
bring its special interest meeting for November 2013 to Auckland – New
Zealand’s City of Sails.
This stunning ethnically diverse city of over one million people straddles
three harbours and a dozen cultures. The conference venue sits on the
Viaduct Basin – home of two America’s Cup regattas and overlooks the
sparkling aquatic playground of the Hauraki Gulf. The area has been
extensively redeveloped in the wake of both the America’s and Rugby World
Cups and is a pleasure to visit.
For those inclined to extend their visit to New Zealand, Auckland offers easy
access to the boiling earth and fierce Maori heritage of Rotorua as well as the
world renowned scenery and sportfishing of the Bay of Islands.
AGES aims to broaden its educative function to include all areas of Obstetric
and Gynaecological surgery. As such the theme for this meeting is The
Surgery of Obstetrics.
An exciting and comprehensive two day programme will take us through
the surgeries of fertility and early pregnancy leading onto the surgeries
of vaginal and caesarean births. We will showcase the life threatening
calamities that can be thrust suddenly upon us.
This is the surgery of judgement and courage; the surgery of the quiet and
lonely small hours. We invite you to join our eminent Australian and New
Zealand faculty to share both learning and experience.
AGES is pleased to offer an advanced Laparoscopic Suturing Workshop in
This is a small and intensive workshop. Each of the 8 delegate pairs will
share their own stack and trainer and will be facilitated by their own expert
preceptor.
The workshop is open to delegates fully registered for the conference, and
is aimed at year 5/6 ITP trainees and fellows with an interest in progressing
existing laparoscopic surgical skills.
During the 3 hours available participants will:
– familiarise with laparoscopic suturing instruments
– learn suture loading and entry technique
