sutures. Once the mesh is attached the tissue and mesh are pulled<br />

apart under increasing tension and the maximum tension recorded.<br />

So far these simulations have been performed on a small number of<br />

specimens in order <strong>to</strong> refine the experimental method. The aim of<br />

the experiments is <strong>to</strong> see if the barbed sutures provide an equivalent<br />

strength of mesh attachment <strong>to</strong> the anterior vaginal wall so that they<br />

would be suitable for this indication.<br />
