• The District met the 10 th highest
percentage of AYP targets in North
Carolina – 57 of 66, or 86.4% of the
115 Local Education Agencies (LEA).
• 4 of the District’s schools were
recognized as Honor Schools of
Excellence - the highest designation
in the State accountability model
• 12 of the District’s schools were
recognized as Schools of Distinction
• State end-of-grade proficiency in
reading for grades 3-8 was 78.3%
for the District as compared to 70.7%
for the State. Mathematics proficiency
for the District was 88.6% as
compared to 82.4% for the State.
• The District had the 10 th highest SAT
score out of the 115 LEAs in the State.
• The District’s Career and Technical
Education (CTE) post-assessment
proficiency for all program areas
was 87.5%. Out of 7 program areas,
3 were above 98% proficient, and
3 were over 87% proficient.

• The dropout rate (grades 9-13) has
steadily decreased over the last 6 years
from 3.87% in 2005-06 to 2.28% in
2010-11. The State’s rate was 3.43%.
• The District’s 4-year cohort graduation
rate is 82.9%, an increase of 3.9%
from the 2009-10 rate of 79.0%
• The District’s 4 middle schools are
ALL National Middle Schools to
Watch because of their strong
academics, sensitivity to adolescents’
needs and interests, and commitment
to high quality education.
