Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner, Bill Hagerty, along
with United Stainless, Inc. President ,Greg Sturicz, announced today the company will expand its’ facility
“Tennessee is an attractive location for companies around the world with our business-friendly environment,
solid workforce and tradition of quality manufacturing”, Hagerty said. “Servicing nearly a dozen
this will bring to our local community,” United Stainless Vice President of Manufacturing, Steve Glidewell,
said. “We would like to give special thanks to the local and state government officials who have participated
Located at 130 Three Star Drive, the
expansion will include a 30,000
square foot building addition that will
accommodate additional cutting and
fabricating equipment along with
more efficient storage and handling.
“We are very pleased that United
Stainless has once again chosen
Selmer for an additional expansion
to their business,” Selmer Mayor
David Robinson said. “We look forward
to the additional jobs that will
be created in the community. They
are a pleasure to work with and we
look forward to a long relationship.”
“We are extremely excited that
United Stainless has made the decision
to reinvest in Selmer/McNairy
County,” McNairy County Mayor
Ronnie Brooks said. “United
Stainless has been an outstanding
asset to Selmer/McNairy County
as an employer but a dedicated citizen.”
"The Selmer/McNairy County Industrial Development Board is very pleased and excited to be a part of
this project," Board Chairman Robert Shackelford said. "United Stainless is one of our premier industries.
Their business model has enabled them to continually grow, meeting the needs of more customers while
supporting many local families and giving back to our community. We are proud to call United Stainless a
friend to McNairy County, and we anticipate a long and mutually beneficial partnership."
“United Stainless has been an excellent corporate citizen, and we are excited about working with them
on their new expansion,” Ted Moore, executive director of the McNairy County Economic Development
Commission, said. “This is their eighth expansion over the past few years. It says a lot for the company
as they continue growth in these difficult economic conditions. Those expansions have allowed them to
more than double the number of employees and operate from two locations in Selmer. We appreciate
the positive economic impact they have on our local economy.”
Rockabilly Rolls
The 2013 Rockabilly Highway Revival was bigger
and better than ever. And that’s saying something.
While it is hard to get exact numbers as far as attendance,
there was definite growth in regards to
the annual car show. The car show has averaged
around 120 cars the first few years. But thanks to
the hard work of Aubrey and Melanie King, the
event grew to between 170-180 cars and trucks in
this years show. This year’s event saw one of the
better entertainment lineups. Rockabilly Murals 1
& 2 artist inspirations were here. Phil Hummer &
the White Falcons, as well as the Silver Threads
took the stage this year. New to the stage this
year was headliner Hillbilly Casino. The overwhelming
consensus was that Hillbilly Casino was
possibly the best performers since the inception of
the event. Headliners and local talent alike resulted
in great entertainment throughout the day.
Things you SHOULD NOT DO every day!
If you get decent value from making to-do lists, you will get huge returns—in productivity, improved
relationships and in your personal well-being—from adding these items to your NOT TO DO list:
Every day, make the commitment not to:
1. Check my phone while I’m talking to someone. Stop checking your phone. It doesn’t notice
when you’re not paying attention, but other people---they notice! And—they care!
2. Multitask during a meeting. The easiest way to be the smartest person in the room is to
be the person who pays most attention to the room. You will be amazed at what you will
learn, both about the topic of the meeting and the people attending the meeting, if you
stop multitasking and start paying close attention. It’s easy, because you will be the only
one who is trying. And—you will be the only one succeeding on multiple levels.
3. Don’t think about people who don’t make any difference in my life. DO—think about your
family, your friends, your employees—all of the people that really matter to you. Give
them your time and attention. They are the ones who deserve it.
4. Use multiple notifications. You don’t need to know the instant you get an email, or a
text, or a tweet, or anything else that pops up on your phone or computer. If something is
important enough for you to do, it’s important enough for you to do without interruption.
Totally FOCUS on what you are doing. Then, on a schedule that YOU set, instead of a
schedule you let everyone else set, get back to work. Focus again on what YOU are doing.
This is a lot more important than focusing on what others might be doing.
5. Let the past dictate the future. Mistakes are valuable. Learn from them. THEN, let them
go. Easier said than done It all depends on your perspective. When something goes
astray, turn it into an opportunity to learn something you did not know—especially about
yourself. When something goes wrong for someone else, turn it into an opportunity to
be gracious, forgiving and understanding. The past should be a lesson to inform you, but
in no way to define you, unless you let it.
6. Wait until I’m sure I will succeed. You can never feel sure you will succeed at something
new but you can always feel sure you are committed to giving something your best. You
can always feel sure you will try again, even if you fail. STOP WAITING. You have a lot
less to lose than you think but everything to gain.
7. Talk behind someone’s back. If only because being the focus of gossip can be damaging
to your reputation. If you have spoken to more than one person about something a
person is doing, wouldn’t everyone be better if you stepped up and actually talked to that
person about it Spend your time on productive conversations. You will get a lot more
done and you will gain a lot more respect from others.
8. Say ‘YES’ when you really mean ‘NO’! Refusing a request from another, albeit a colleague,
customer or close friend, is really hard. But rarely does saying ‘NO’ go as badly
as you may expect. Most people will understand and if they don’t, should you care too
much about what they think When you say ‘NO’, at least you will only feel bad for a
short time. When you say ‘YES’ to something that you really don’t want to do, you might
feel bad for a long time—or at least as long as it takes you to do what you really didn’t
want to do in the first place.
If you would like more information on this or other topics regarding your business, a FREE
Center, (JSCC), may be helpful. Call the McNairy Regional Alliance at 731-645-6360 to set
