• 06-11-<strong>2012</strong> Prof. Rajata Rajatanavin, President, welcomed Prof. Nigel Weatherill, Vice Chancellor of<br />

Liverpool John Moores University, UK and Mr. Jeffery Soong its Regional Director, South-East Asia.<br />

During the meeting held at the Office of the President, the delegates discussed the idea of creating a<br />

Double Degree in the field of Sports Science. (Picture 1)<br />

• 30-10-<strong>2012</strong> Her Excellency Ms. Kristie A. Kenney, US Ambassador to Thailand visited <strong>Mahidol</strong><br />

University to deliver a talk on the U.S. Elections <strong>2012</strong>. During her address, which was held on the 3 rd<br />

Floor, (MUIC) Auditorium, H.E. Ms. Kenney outlined the candidates for President and Vice President.<br />

She then gave students a greater insight into the US electoral process and the main concerns of its electorate, such as the Economy<br />

and Health Care. H.E. then invited questions from the audience and was able to address a wide-range of subjects including the possible<br />

impacts of the super storm Sandy on the election. (Pictures 2-5)<br />

• <strong>19</strong>-10-<strong>2012</strong> His Excellency, Mr. Lyonpo Zangley Dukpa, Minister of Health for the Kingdom of Bhutan,<br />

visited <strong>Mahidol</strong> University as part of a one-day visit to Thai Universities to discuss the establishment of a<br />

University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan. H.E. Mr. Dukpa discussed assistance in developing expertise<br />

in traditional medicine, long-term medical training for doctors, the training of pre-clinical students, and<br />

reviewing the medical curriculum. <strong>Mahidol</strong> University representatives, led by Prof. Rajata Rajatanavin,<br />

agreed that <strong>Mahidol</strong> University was able to offer considerable support, and further discussions between<br />

Bhutanese representatives, the faculties and the administrators concerned are now planned. (Picture 6)<br />

• 03-10-12 <strong>Mahidol</strong> University and its International Relations Division welcomed Ms. Anna Sadecka,<br />

Head of Section for EU Educational Programmes, International Relations Office, University of Warsaw,<br />

Poland and Mr. Henrik Hofvendahl, Programme Officer, Asia, Strategic Partnerships and Networks,<br />

Division of External Relations, Lund University, Sweden. The delegates were visiting <strong>Mahidol</strong> University<br />

to promote this year’s Erasmus Mundus Europe Asia (EMEA) programme of the European Union and<br />

the scholarships available under it. Following a meeting with international relations staff and a campus<br />

tour, the delegation gave a presentation on the opportunities available under the program, and<br />

conducted a question and answer session. (Picture 7)<br />

• 09-10-12 Dr. Sandro Calvani, Head of Human Resource Office at the Asian Institute of Technology,<br />

Rangsit, Thailand gave a guest lecture entitled “An Executive Summary of HRM of Expats in Thailand”.<br />

Dr. Calvani was welcomed by Prof. Suwanna Ruangkanchanasetr, Vice President and Asst. Prof.<br />

Surakit Nathisuwan, Vice President for International Relations, who joined representatives of several<br />

divisions from the Office of the President for the presentation which dealt with the idea of “Educational<br />

Professionals Beyond Borders” and the risks and opportunities created by expat-friendly human<br />

resource policies.<br />

• 31-08-<strong>2012</strong> Delegates from the Hanoi School of Public Health in Vietnam visited the Faculty of Public Health for discussions<br />

regarding potential joint research projects and collaborations in student exchange. The delegates also took the opportunity to visit the<br />

Faculty’s Department of Health Education and Behavioural Science and its Department of Occupational Health and Safety. (Picture 8)<br />
