Sean and Morgan Hinkley. Sean is
the son of Jim and Julie Hinkley. He
works for the City of Beaverton in Operations.
Morgan works for the State
of Oregon Child Support Division.
They live in Sherwood, Oregon. Sean
began boating in 1990 at the Willamette
Yacht Club. Sean and Morgan enjoy
cruising and OSU tailgating (GO
BEAVS).
Bryan Berry and Lynne Barbier.
Bryan and Lynne met three years ago
on a blind date, and have been together
since. It comes as no surprise that their
boat, a Carver 35, is named Blind Date.
Turns out that Bryan changed the name
after he met Lynne and surprised her!
Bryan bought the boat, his first larger
boat, 4 years ago. He has been a boater
for as long as he can remember, and he
owned a number of smaller boats. A
friend bought a larger boat and was
looking for a gullible buddy to buy one
also. Enter Bryan!
He kept the boat at Johns Landing, but
found it hard to get people to come
downtown to join him out on the water.
Thus began a search for a yacht
club on the big river. He considered
CRYC, Tyee, and PYC, and chose PYC
due to its location, friends in the club,
and possibility of owning a boathouse.
He purchased one immediately after
joining.
Bryan owns a landscaping business, as
well as some rental properties. Lynne
is a flight attendant. They live in Vancouver,
but they have dinner on their
boat 4 to 6 nights a week at their boathouse
during the summer, and a couple
nights a week during the winter – talk
about dedication.
Bryan and Lynne are active with the
Christmas Ships program. When not
boating, they like to ride their Harley
Davidsons, travel, snowmobile, and ski.
They also like to visit their beach house
on the Washington coast. Lynne has
three grown children.
Floyd and Lynn Jones. Floyd has
lived in the Portland area all his life.
He worked as a teacher of occupational
horticulture in the Portland school system
until retiring 7 years ago. Lynn
worked as a registered nurse. Floyd
was introduced to boating in the navy,
where he served for four years. He has
been sailing for 35 years. First boat
was a Catalina 22, but he eventually
graduated to his current sailboat, a
Beneteau Oceanis 400, which is currently
located at Marathon Key in Florida
(on the hard during the hurricane
season). He sails the Keys and Bahamas
from November through April (eat
your hearts out!). When not in Florida,
he runs his fishing boat in Alaska. He
used to do some chartering, and has a
skipper’s license.
Floyd has sailed for years in Portland,
and has crewed on several PYC boats.
He and his high school buddy, Lane
Brown, bought the Beneteau together
in 1995, and put it into charter with
Sunsail. He and Lane have raced together
in Portland. Floyd has sailed
with others at PYC over the years, and
is not a stranger to PYC.
In addition to sailing and fishing, Floyd
likes to dive, golf, ski, travel, garden
and work with wood (he built two kayaks).
Floyd and Lynn have one grown
daughter, who also likes to sail.
September
I was hoping for a much longer
summer than we had. I hope that you
had a good time on your boats this
boating season and an extended Indian
summer occurs.
In case you didn’t know, we have maintenance
repair forms available on
Terry’s office door as well as in the
office and on the bulletin board behind
the bar. Please fill them out if you notice
a problem on the docks or at your
slip and Terry will take a look at the
issue. It is a much better solution than
mentioning it to the staff.
I have also been aware that sometimes
the dock carts are not being cleaned
out after oil or other contaminates are
spilled in them. Diesel does not smell
very good on your blankets or clothing
after transporting them to your vessel.
We installed an intercom from the office
to the fuel dock in order to inform
you that we are sending someone down
to fuel your boat. If it is within office
hours and you haven’t heard from us
push the PTT button and hold it while
you talk. The office will respond. I
hope that this will keep you informed
about our response.
