Michał Piekarski is a graduate <strong>of</strong> the Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>Musicology</strong> at the University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Warsaw (2008) and East European Studies (2010). He has participated<br />

in numerous international conferences on East European problems (Budapest,<br />

Rzeszów, Warsaw, Vilnius) and co-organised <strong>Polish</strong> and Ukrainian concerts <strong>of</strong><br />

music by 19th- and 20th-century <strong>Polish</strong> composers from Lemberg (Lviv) and<br />

Eastern Galicia. He is a PhD student at the Institute for the History <strong>of</strong> Science<br />

(<strong>Polish</strong> Academy <strong>of</strong> Sciences)<br />

Irena Poniatowska is a musicologist who worked until 2003 at the Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Musicology</strong>, Warsaw University. In 1975–1985, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Poniatowska chaired the<br />

Academic Board <strong>of</strong> the Fryderyk Chopin Society, and went on to act as the Society’s<br />

Vice-President until 1990. Since 1994 she has acted as the President <strong>of</strong><br />

the Association ‘<strong>Polish</strong> Chopin Academy’. Since 2001, she has chaired the Program<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Poland, and she was Chair at<br />

the Chopin Congresses in 1999 and 2010. She chaired also since 1988 the Congresses<br />

‘Musica Antiqua Europae Orientalis’ in the Bydgoszcz Philharmonic.<br />

With over 300 publications to her name, she has authored books (Beethoven’s<br />

Piano Texture, 1972, The chronicle <strong>of</strong> musical events in Poland 1945–1974,<br />

1974; The Piano Music and the Pianistic in the 19. C., 1991, The History and<br />

Interpretation <strong>of</strong> Music 17.–19.C., II ed. 1995 (all books in <strong>Polish</strong>), Romanticism<br />

Part 2A 1850–1900. Musical Output (Sutkowski Edition 2011 (polish<br />

version 2010), many different editions and facsimile editions <strong>of</strong> Chopin’s works<br />

(Preludes 1999, BN; also Sonata in B minor, 2005 and Preludes, 2010 NIFC [coedited<br />

with Z. Chechlińska]; Etudes (6 etudes from Op. 10), 2007 and Allegro<br />

de concert, 2008 NIFC). Her Chopin scholarship includes a 2005 booklet on the<br />

composer co-authored with A. Morawińska (translated into 9 languages) as part<br />

<strong>of</strong> a series: Composers and the Art <strong>of</strong> Their Time; Wokół recepcji i rezonansu<br />

muzyki. Szkice chopinowskie [Music reception and resonance. Chopin sketches],<br />

NIFC 2008; Chopin. Człowiek i jego muzyka [Chopin: the man and his music]<br />

(Multico, album in <strong>Polish</strong> and English, 2009, in <strong>Polish</strong> and French, 2010). She<br />

is also editor <strong>of</strong> the Chopin and his Critics. An Anthology (up to World War I),<br />

which contains the critics in Poland, Russia, Germany, France and Great Britain,<br />

also in polish version, NIFC 2011.<br />

Zbigniew Skowron is pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>Musicology</strong>, University <strong>of</strong><br />

Warsaw. He graduated in <strong>Polish</strong> philology and musicology with Z<strong>of</strong>ia Lissa at<br />

the University <strong>of</strong> Warsaw, and in music theory at the Academy <strong>of</strong> Music in
