One of the best ways to get a feel for our campus is to walk around<br />
and discover <strong>Binghamton</strong> <strong>University</strong> for yourself. Here are some<br />
suggested points of interest and favorite stops along the way.<br />
Enjoy your visit!<br />
To see one of our model rooms in a residence hall, please stop<br />
by Undergraduate Admissions in Academic Building A during our<br />
weekday office hours (8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.) to get a key.<br />
Museum whose galleries — including one dedicated to student and<br />
faculty talent — showcase traveling and permanent collections.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> Art Museum is open Tuesday-Sunday, 1-4 p.m. (until<br />
7 p.m. Thursdays). Feel free to take a look around. Admission is free.<br />

memorial Courtyard<br />
This peaceful, open-air space is accessible through the<br />
Fine Arts Building. It commemorates the 15 <strong>Binghamton</strong> alumni<br />
who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and is a beautiful place<br />
to sit, reflect and relax.<br />

Engineering Building<br />
The Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied<br />
Science calls this building home. Inside is the Integrated Electronics<br />
Engineering Center, which has been designated a New York State<br />
Center for Advanced Technology.<br />
Watson School research includes breakthroughs in computer<br />
grids that can connect thousands of PCs using the Internet,<br />
steganography (the detection of hidden messages in digital<br />
imagery) and forensic analysis of digital images (detection of<br />
forgeries and tampering).<br />

<strong>University</strong> Health Service<br />
High-quality health care and preventive services are available<br />
on campus, as are Harpur’s Ferry, our student-run ambulance service;<br />
the Counseling Center; and 24-hour crisis line.<br />

East Gym<br />
Stay fit playing racquetball, handball, basketball, golf,<br />
baseball or softball, or lifting weights in Fitspace, our fitness center.<br />
Join intramurals or our competitive club sports.<br />

West Gym<br />
Take a lap in the West Gym’s Olympic-size swimming pool.<br />

Admissions/Academic Complex<br />
The two glass buildings are home to Undergraduate<br />
Admissions, the School of Management and the Decker School<br />
of Nursing. In addition to classrooms and lecture halls, you’ll find<br />
public computer pods and “real-world” technology such as a<br />
trading room that simulates Wall Street and SimMan®, a breathing,<br />
bleeding, talking, high-tech, practice “patient” in our nursing school.<br />
The Student Wing, adjacent to Academic A, houses various student<br />
services such as Financial Aid and Student Accounts; the octagonal<br />
Lecture Hall beyond it accommodates 14 classrooms.<br />

Science Complex<br />
Directly north of the Lecture Hall is one of six buildings that<br />
comprise the Science Complex. Here, students in our high-tech<br />
lab space practice hands-on science — from biology, geology,<br />
physics and chemistry to anthropology, environmental studies and<br />
psychology. This complex also houses our Science Library.<br />
If your have time, visit the unique four-zone Greenhouse, open<br />
during regular office hours. It contains more than 6,000 plants and<br />
1,400 species from climates ranging from tropical to desert.<br />

The Glenn G. Bartle library<br />
The tallest building on campus is the 15-story library tower<br />
in which several academic departments are located as well as the<br />
offices of the <strong>University</strong>’s largest school, Harpur College of Arts<br />
and Sciences. The <strong>University</strong> Libraries have more than three million<br />
holdings and access to materials at more than 60 SUNY campuses.<br />
The Bartle Library is open for study and research 24 hours a day<br />
during finals.<br />

Anderson Center for the Performing<br />
Arts, Fine Arts Building<br />
Internationally renowned performers from opera to rock and students<br />
and faculty alike grace the world-class stages of the Anderson Center.<br />
The Fine Arts Building is where you’ll find the Theatre, Music and<br />
Art departments; several performance halls, including Casadesus<br />
Recital Hall and its impressive Link pipe organ, and the <strong>University</strong> Art<br />

<strong>University</strong> Union<br />
Topped with the <strong>University</strong>’s distinguishing clock tower,<br />
the <strong>University</strong> Union is the center of student life. Among its many<br />
conveniences are a food court, bookstore, bank, post office, Kosher<br />
Kitchen, Susquehanna Dining Room and offices for the student<br />
newspaper, radio station, student government and more than 200<br />
student groups. Students can also take advantage of bowling,<br />
table tennis, billiards and other recreational facilities right here on<br />
campus. “Late Nite <strong>Binghamton</strong>” takes over on weekend nights with<br />
movies, music and games — just you and more than 2,000 of your<br />
closest friends every week.<br />

Dickinson Dining Hall<br />
One of five residential dining halls, Dickinson will give you a<br />
taste of the wide range of menu options found here, including sushi,<br />
vegan and other gourmet options. Students can stop in and pick up<br />
a three-course meal, a bag of chips or ice cream with their debitstyle<br />
meal card.<br />

College-in-the-Woods<br />
You can take a peek at a model residence room in Cayuga<br />
or Onondaga halls. Although each residence hall is unique, all offer a<br />
balance of student-centered learning and lots of fun.<br />
Made up of small communities, each has its own personality and<br />
activities such as “mutant mania” (residence-hall Olympics) and<br />
co-rec football (where the women are the quarterbacks). They also<br />
offer area-based and first-year courses that you can take with other<br />
members of your residential community. Each has its own faculty<br />
master, providing a powerful connection between academics and<br />
residential life.<br />

Events Center<br />
Join our sea of green and enjoy NCAA Division I Bearcats<br />
basketball. Go to concerts like Foo Fighters, Green Day, Less than<br />
Jake, Ludacris, even Bob Dylan. Commencement is held here, as are<br />
other <strong>University</strong> and community events: comedy shows, motocross,<br />
Midnight Madness and more!<br />

Bearcats Sports Complex<br />
Show your Bearcat spirit in this $5 million state-of-the-art<br />
facility. Home to men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse teams, the<br />
Bearcats Sports Complex includes a pair of lighted, synthetic-turf<br />
fields — one for games and one designed for practices. With 2,534<br />
seats near the playing field, there’s plenty of room to cheer on your teams!<br />

Nature Preserve<br />
Several trails lace through this 190-acre preserve composed<br />
of woods and pond, a habitat for year-round and migrating birds, deer<br />
and native plant life. Bring your binoculars and sense of adventure<br />
and curiosity. It’s <strong>Binghamton</strong>’s largest classroom and lab.<br />
The tiny asphalt ramps along the curbs of Nature<br />
Preserve Drive help native salamanders migrate to<br />
lay their eggs — the reason the drive is closed to<br />
vehicles during the spring.<br />
