This partnership has been instrumental in the development of the Leagues, primarily courtesy of the RAF Club Development Fund and the RAF Final Fours. Basketball Camps and the Junior Officiating Award Scheme afford further development opportunities for players with coverage provided by the popular ‘No Limits’ Magazine. Inprints A. Orchard NO LIMITS MAGAZINE RAF CLUB DEVELOPMENT FUND RAF YOUTH BASKETBALL PROGRAMMES 2007- 08 ‘No Limits’ Magazine provides the latest news direct from the Governing Bodies of England and Scotland as well as up to date league reports. A variety of insightful articles on NBA stars, RAF player profiles and exciting competitions combine to make this the essential junior basketball magazine. ‘No Limits’ was distributed to junior players on the English and Scottish Basketball Association databases. RAF BASKETBALL CAMPS PROGRAMME The 2007-2008 RAF Club Development Fund allowed £40,000 to be distributed to teams to help cover costs such as transport, facility hire and kit. With the continued expansion of the Junior National Leagues, demand for this funding continues to grow. Over the past nine years, the RAF has awarded approximately £300,000 to the Club Development Fund. Five RAF basketball camps took place across the UK during the February and October half terms, open to England Basketball affiliated players from twelve to eighteen years of age. These free camps were accessible to players of all abilities. Expert coaching, competitions and matches were complemented by RAF fitness training, team building sessions and talks on life in the service. The sites selected were RAF Odiham, Filton College (Bristol), RAF Lintonon-Ouse, RAF Waddington and the Spectrum Leisure Complex (Wear Valley). RAF JUNIOR OFFICIATING AWARD SCHEME This season was the third season of the RAF Junior Officiating Award Scheme which encourages players and non-players to participate in basketball by taking the Level I Officials Course. The target of 200 Level I participants was again surpassed. Again we hope that another 20 candidates from the 2007-2008 Level 1 courses will move forward and achieve their Level 2 Award. Increasingly, young people who have come through the scheme can now be seen refereeing RAF Junior National League games. Selected referees have also secured nominations at the RAF Final Fours. 24
