Hoosier Introduces First Front Wheel Drive
4-Cylinder/Hornet/U-Car Racing Tire
After thorough market investigation and exploratory testing, Hoosier Racing Tire is proud to
introduce the first dirt racing tire designed specifically for the 4-cylinder, Front Wheel Drive
Class often referred to as Hornets, U-Cars, or FWD’s.
“While spending last summer walking through numerous pit areas, I began to wonder why we
were not producing a tire for the largest class at most tracks.” recalled Hoosier Product
Manager Shanon Rush. “After evaluating the interest of the 4-cylinder competitors, all signs
pointed to the need for a durable, consistent, affordable, and readily available race tire. That is
why we set out to develop the new 14 and 15 inch “Stocker” tires.”
After spending most of the 2011 season gathering market information, Hoosier Engineers
developed a prototype tire and tested the product against standard passenger car tires at
Wythe Speedway in late fall. The results and feedback were very positive and led to the final
product available today.
The new 195/70-14 and 195/70-15 Hoosier “Stocker” is now in stock and ready for delivery. It
features one of our most durable racing compounds wrapped on a sturdy, but compliant,
sidewall. The new “Stocker’ tire should provide a more stable, drivable feel without sacrificing
longevity and durability.
“Our goal from the start of this project was to build a suitable replacement for today’s street
tires without adding significant expense to these budget-conscious racers. We really think we
hit the mark with the new “Stocker’ tires.”
