Calipso, a unique range of interactive mental health training and self-help software
for health care trainees, professional, and patients, is developed and marketed by the University of Leeds Media Innovations
Limited, in the United Kingdom. By using the Calipso training packages, which contain interactive patient case studies on video,
health care trainees and professionals can strengthen their skills detecting, assessing and diagnosing common mental health disorders.
In the long term this may lead to fewer patient referrals and more effective and timely patient treatment, an improvement
for the health services, health care workers, and patients. The self-help products provide sufferers of illnesses such as bulimia
and depression with a structured treatment program, based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), to help them overcome their
condition, CBT is an effective treatment approach for these particular conditions, but until now patient access has been restricted
due to shortage of qualified CBT professionals.
