It is further RECOMMENDED that:<br />
1. Whenever possible, competitions should be held on non-school time (weekends,<br />
vacation, etc.)<br />
2. <strong>School</strong>s should emphasize a 125-mile of half-day limitation for events scheduled<br />
on a weekday and a 300-mile limitation for events scheduled on weekends.<br />
3. Events sponsored by the non-educational agencies should be scrutinized with<br />
extreme care. Sponsoring agencies should submit, upon request, a financial<br />
accounting to demonstrate that they do not profit unreasonably from such sponsorship.<br />
4. Activities scheduled on the Unified <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Activities Federation calendar<br />
should be given priority in relation to programs sponsored by outside agencies.<br />
RECORDING POLICIES OF THE IHSMA<br />
Recording services are provided for the All-State Festival. Cameras and recorders will not<br />
be permitted in the performance area for this event.<br />
Personal video cameras will be permitted at the State Marching Band Festival, Show-Jazz<br />
Choir/Jazz Band Festival, Solo/Small Ensemble Festival, and Large Group Festival; however,<br />
the site management may designate a specific area from which to record. In performance<br />
areas where congestion is a concern, only small hand-held video cameras will be<br />
allowed (no tripods). US Copyright Law permits each performer the privilege of archiving<br />
their performance. US Copyright does not allow the sale of this video footage to anyone,<br />
or the distribution of this video footage to any non-performer.<br />
<strong>The</strong> IHSMA will not utilize personal audio or videotapes in disputes over a judge’s<br />
ruling.<br />
PENALTY DEADLINE INFORMATION/INTENT TO REGISTER<br />
IHSMA Registration/Penalty Policy: Events sponsored by the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Music</strong><br />
Association have established registration deadlines. Both the Registration Deadline and<br />
the Penalty Deadline are postmark deadlines. Entries postmarked af ter the registration/<br />
postmark deadline must include the standard registration fee for that particular group or<br />
individual PLUS the 50% penalty fee (to a MAXIMUM of $25.00). Once the penalty postmark<br />
deadline has passed, schools may still register for participation by paying the following<br />
additional penalties: Marching Band - $100.00 per entry; All-State - $100.00 per<br />
student; Show-Jazz Choir/Jazz Band - $100.00 per entry; Large Group - $100.00 per<br />
entry; Piano - $20 per entry. Solo/Small Ensemble - $17 per entry. <strong>The</strong>se late entries will<br />
be scheduled at the convenience of the festival host.<br />
Enclosed with this bulletin is an “INTENT TO REGISTER” card. <strong>The</strong> IHSMA requests<br />
its completion and return. This card will provide information relative to the programs in<br />
which each school intends participation. On the final day of any registration period, the<br />
IHSMA of fice will fax or email a reminder to schools who have declared intent to participate,<br />
and from whom no entry has been received.<br />
