this issue. <strong>The</strong> second recommendation was to increase the maximum time allowed for<br />

Chamber Choirs from 6 to 8 minutes. MMS (MERZ/COLTON) to accept this recommendation.<br />

PASSED <strong>The</strong> third recommendation was to increase the maximum number of singers<br />

allowed in a Bass Clef, Treble Clef, and Mixed Vocal Ensemble from 9 to 12 singers,<br />

with the understanding that ensembles employing 10-12 singers must sing 4 part literature.<br />

MMS (COLTON/LETTOW) to accept the recommendation. PASSED <strong>The</strong> director<br />

presented a proposal to provide certificates online for directors to download and print off<br />

for students receiving a Division I or Division II rating at the IHSMA Solo/Small Ensemble<br />

Festival. MMS (MERZ/LETTOW) to accept the proposal and publish the certificates online<br />

as modified. PASSED <strong>The</strong> director outlined concerns with the Outstanding Performers<br />

Recital. MMS (NUGENT/LETTOW) for IHSMA to facilitate a meeting with representatives of<br />

the <strong>Iowa</strong> String Teachers Association, <strong>Iowa</strong> Bandmasters Association, and the <strong>Iowa</strong> Choral<br />

Directors Association to collaboratively discuss the current success of the Outstanding<br />

Performance Award Winners recital and explore future enhancements of that recital.<br />

ASSOCIATION CONCERNS: <strong>The</strong> director provided an outline of the content to be included<br />

in the Adjudicator Specialist Certification sessions as derived by input from the<br />

ICDA Liaison Committee and the IBA Concert Band Af fairs Committee. MMS (COLTON/<br />

MERZ) to implement the Adjudicator Specialist Certification Sessions as they are developed.<br />

PASSED MMS (COLTON/DANNEN) to adopt a uniform policy for all festivals<br />

concerning adjudicator pay where a festival is cancelled or postponed due to inclement<br />

weather. Under this policy adjudicators would be reimbursed, at the contracted rates, for<br />

expenses incurred (mileage, housing, and meal honorarium). Adjudicators will not be<br />

reimbursed for their adjudication honorarium unless the festival is cancelled or postponed<br />

af ter it has already begun. In that instance adjudicators will be paid their full contract.<br />

Adjudicators of festivals that have experienced a postponement will be given first consideration<br />

when securing adjudicators for the re-scheduled festival. PASSED <strong>The</strong> director<br />

outlined an adjudicator recognition program that would recognize currently approved adjudicators<br />

and veteran adjudicators for years of service. MMS (COLTON/NUGENT) to<br />

provide certificates for all “approved” adjudicators. PASSED <strong>The</strong> Adjudicator Recognition<br />

Program for Years of Service was tabled for further discussion at the October meeting.<br />

MMS (NUGENT/MERZ) to provide metal “Lifetime Passes” to IHSMA events to all former<br />

and current Executive Committee members and to Everett Johnson; and to provide laminated<br />

term passes to current DAG members. PASSED <strong>The</strong> director notified the committee<br />

that the current supply of “Distinguished” Academic Achievement Awards had been exhausted<br />

and that a re-order of the same certificate was not possible. MMS (NUGENT/<br />

LETTOW) to abandon the current certificate program and implement a plaque program<br />

similar to that of the IHSAA and IGHSAU. PASSED Meeting dates for the <strong>2004</strong>-2005<br />

school year were established as October 13, <strong>2004</strong> (Executive Committee and DAG);<br />

January 19, 2005 (Executive Committee); April 20, 2005 (Executive Committee and DAG);<br />

and June 18, 2005 (Executive Committee). <strong>The</strong> joint meeting between the IHSMA Executive<br />

Committee and IMEA Executive Board will be April, 19, 2005. <strong>The</strong> 2005 National<br />

Federation Summer Meeting will be held in San Antonio, Texas and is tentatively scheduled<br />

for June 30 – July 3, 2005. MMS (COLTON/NUGENT) to provide a donation of $150<br />

to IPTV. <strong>The</strong> director outlined current plans for joint booth space at the SAI convention<br />
