LARGE GROUP FESTIVAL: Director Greiner presented the registration report as evident, reporting a decline in participation of 30 ensembles. ALL-STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL: The director advised the committee of IPTV agreement to market the All-State Festival Concert in DVD format rather than VHS and that Comprehensive Sound would take care of the reproduction and distribution duties. A proposal from Comprehensive Sound will be available at the next meeting of the Executive Committee. DISTRICT ADVISORY GROUP CONCERNS: David Rutt presented a summary of concerns and comments provided by the north central district. Those concerns included concern over the quality of work provided by Jolesch Photography at the State Marching Band Festival; the success of the video verbal adjudication of the Show-Jazz Choir Festival at the Forest City site; online registration/scheduling process concerns for Solo/Small Ensemble Festival; and the quality of adjudicators for the IHSMA Marching Band Festival and Large Group Festival. ASSOCIATION CONCERNS: The director provided an update of plans to move the registration processes for the rest of the IHSMA festivals online. MMS (Lehmann/Merz) to approve the 2004-2005 registration, penalty, and festival dates as provided. PASSED Classification proposals provided by the director were reviewed. MMS (Nugent/Colton) to re-classify the IHSMA schools into 4 classes for the 2005-2006 academic year. Those classifications would be based upon the Department of Educations BEDS document (grades 9-11) from the previous year and are as follows: Class 4A – 600 or more students; Class 3A – 275 to 599 students; Class 2A – 150 to 274 students; and Class 1A –149 or less students. PASSED The director informed the board of some inconsistencies in existing policy regarding adjudicator pay for IHSMA festivals that are cancelled/postponed due to inclement weather. The director was directed to draw up a proposal for the boards consideration. With the resignation of Treasurer Tim Peterson, Charter Oak from the Executive Committee it was necessary to elect a new treasurer. MMS (Lehmann/Lettow) to elect Tom Nugent as Treasurer. PASSED The director informed the committee of a plan to cooperatively consolidate booth space for the upcoming SAI convention with IBA/ISTA/IMEA (ICDA has not yet committed). MMS (Nugent/Lehmann) to provide a booth for the SAI Convention. The idea of term and lifetime passes for Executive Committee members and DAG members was discussed. The director was instructed to draw up a proposal for the next meeting. MMS (Lehmann/Merz) to move into closed session at 2:55 PM for discussion of the evaluation and the continuing contract of the Executive Director. PASSED MMS (Nugent/Merz) to return to open session. Passed MMS (Merz/Colton) to extend a 2-year contract to the Executive Director, increasing the salary package by 9.5% to $79,358 for the first year, the salary is to be negotiated for the second year but will not decrease. PASSED The director thanked the committee for their continued support and confidence. The director informed the committee that he had met with Executive Director of the IHSAA and the agreement between the IHSAA and the IHSMA was satisfactory to both parties. MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING June 19, 2004 The Executive Committee of the Iowa High School Music Association met at 1:00 p.m., June 19, 2004, in Des Moines, Iowa, at the Hotel Fort Des Moines. Members present were: Tom Dannen, Melcher-Dallas; Jan Merz, Fort Dodge; Todd Lettow, Nora Springs; Steve Colton, Marion; and Tom Nugent, Villisca. Mark Lehmann, Waverly, was absent. Also in attendance was Alan Greiner, Executive Director, who served as the recording secretary. President Dannen chaired the meeting. MMS(MERZ/LETTOW) to approve the minutes of the April 21, 2004, meeting as printed and distributed. PASSED MMS(MERZ/COLTON) to approve the financial bills as submitted. PASSED Director Greiner presented the Year End Summary, highlighting each of the festivals of 2002-2003. The director was instructed to prepare a five-year study of large group registrations by classification The director presented a detailed budget proposal for the 2004-2005 fiscal year. MMS(NUGENT/LETTOW) to approve the 2004-2005 Budget as presented.
