John Aboud presented a written report of the 2003 All-State Band in which he acknowledged<br />

the outstanding ef forts of Joseph Missal and the All-State Band. He expressed his<br />

appreciation for the ef forts of his assistants: Chris Ewan, Ames and David Rutt, Forest City.<br />

Mr. Aboud also cited the cooperation of Barry Larkin and Michael Golemo, <strong>Iowa</strong> State<br />

University; and Mike Broich and the staf f of the <strong>Iowa</strong> State Center. He also expressed a<br />

need to reevaluate the percussion audition card.<br />

All three chairs expressed their thanks to Jeanie Dowd and Alan Greiner for professional<br />

work and assistance in attending to the details of this festival.<br />

Director Greiner and Mr. Aboud expressed concern over the need for a common release<br />

date for the All-State audition materials. MMS (Merz/Seim) to release all music on the<br />

same date (July 25 or the first business day thereafter). PASSED<br />

Director Greiner expressed concern that the 3 and ½ month audition procedure was too<br />

lengthy. MMS (Seim/Kreitzer) not sanction any All-State Camps for 2005 until this matter<br />

has been resolved at the next joint meeting in April of 2005. PASSED It was agreed that<br />

we should survey the camps and successful AS students to gain data to help in arriving at<br />

an informed decision at our next joint meeting.<br />

Director Greiner reviewed the concert order for the <strong>2004</strong> festival and reiterated the audition<br />

date as October 23, <strong>2004</strong> and the finale dates as <strong>No</strong>vember 18-20, <strong>2004</strong>.<br />

MMS (Dannen/Merz) to approve the slate of conductors for the All-State Orchestra as<br />

proposed by Mr. Hallberg. PASSED<br />

MMS (Merz/Kreitzer) to approve the slate of conductors for the All-State Chorus as proposed<br />

by Dr. Grove. PASSED<br />

MMS (Merz/Seim) to accept the slate of conductors for the 2005 All-State Band as proposed<br />

by Mr. Aboud. PASSED<br />

Mr. Aboud expressed concern with issues in 2003 of directors being kept away from the<br />

audition center in some sites and not others feeling that this policy needed to be consistent.<br />

Director Greiner expressed concern with issues of directors sticking their heads<br />

inside the doors of audition centers and students making their school name known to the<br />

auditors. <strong>The</strong> Director was instructed to report the infractions to the administration of the<br />

offending school.<br />
