<strong>2004</strong> National Federation Summer meeting dates were discussed. A thank you note from<br />

Everett Johnson, 2003 Inductee into the National Federation Hall of Fame was well received.<br />

A review of the Executive Director Evaluation instrument was held. An Executive<br />

Committee summer retreat/business meeting was set for June 19, <strong>2004</strong> at 1:00 PM.<br />

Special Election timelines were established to replace Tim Peterson.<br />

MINUTES OF THE JOINT MEETING OF THE IMEA EXECUTIVE BOARD, IHSMA<br />

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, AND ALL-STATE CHAIRS<br />

April 20, <strong>2004</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> Executive Committee of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Association and the Executive<br />

Board of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Educators Association met in joint session on Tuesday, April 20,<br />

<strong>2004</strong>, in Boone, <strong>Iowa</strong>. Representing the IMEA were Shirley Neugebauer-Luebke, Sioux<br />

City; Scott Keese, Huxley; Ruth Seim, Ottumwa; and Gerald Kreitzer, Cedar Rapids. Representing<br />

the IHSMA were Mark Lehmann, Waverly; Steve Colton, Marion; Todd Lettow,<br />

<strong>No</strong>ra Springs; Jan Merz, Fort Dodge; and Tom Dannen, Truro. Also in attendance were Ted<br />

Hallberg, All-State Orchestra Chair; John Aboud, All-State Band Chair; David Rutt, All-State<br />

Band Chair elect and Alan Greiner, Executive Director of the IHSMA. IMEA President<br />

Shirley Neugebauer-Luebke chaired the meeting. Alan Greiner served as recording secretary.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Chair called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.<br />

Ted Hallberg presented a written report of the 2003 All-State Orchestra citing the outstanding<br />

work of Dr. William LaRue Jones and the All-State Orchestra. Dr. Louis Bergonzi was<br />

scheduled to direct the ensemble but was unable to attend due to a family emergency. Mr.<br />

Eilers cited the ef forts of the twenty-five high school string teachers that served as seating<br />

auditors for the festival and faculty members of the <strong>Iowa</strong> State University <strong>Music</strong> Department.<br />

He acknowledged the work of Steve McCombs, Pella, for his outstanding work with<br />

the percussionists and acknowledged the fine work of Bruce Eilers as the retiring All-State<br />

Chair. Mr. Hallberg announced that new to auditions was the selection of the scales and<br />

excerpts by the chair instead of the individual auditors. This process was deemed successful<br />

and will be continued in <strong>2004</strong>.<br />

Director Greiner presented a written All-State Chorus report prepared by Dr. Greg Grove.<br />

In that report Dr. Grove expressed his appreciation for the ef forts of Steve Woodin,<br />

Urbandale; Aaron McCullough, Winterset; Joleen Nelson, Mount Vernon; and Kent Keating,<br />

<strong>Iowa</strong> City and several other volunteer assistants. He thanked Bruce Eilers for his assistance<br />

in selecting and coordinating rehearsal time with the chamber orchestra and thanked<br />

Dr. William David for hosting the second round of Piano Auditions. Greiner cited the<br />

outstanding ef forts of the 2003 All-State Chorus and their director Jing Ling-Tam.<br />
