Thursday evening meeting of the housing chaperones would be held only for new chaperones<br />

and that a representative from each property check in each morning at 8:00 AM<br />

with Director Greiner via cell phone. Name badges and checklists will be placed in each<br />

property to be picked up by each chaperone upon check-in.<br />

SHOW-JAZZ CHOIR/JAZZ BAND FESTIVAL: <strong>The</strong> registration report was presented.<br />

This years event experienced a net loss in participation of five ensembles. All sites for the<br />

Class 3A-1A-A Jazz Band Festival reported smooth operations.<br />

PIANO FESTIVAL: <strong>The</strong> registration report was presented and a decline in participation<br />

was again noted. <strong>The</strong> director explained that based upon last years and this years decline<br />

one less site will be needed for next year’s festival. <strong>The</strong> director was instructed to present<br />

a map outlining the proposed 5 sites for these regions.<br />

SOLO/SMALL ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL: <strong>The</strong> director demonstrated the new Solo/Small<br />

Ensemble online registration and scheduling sof tware that will be employed for this year’s<br />

festival. <strong>The</strong> committee was satisfied with the comprehensiveness of this project. MMS<br />

(Colton/Peterson) to provide a $20 per center honorarium for each 2005 Solo/Small Ensemble<br />

host site. PASSED<br />

MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL: A finalized financial report was presented and reviewed.<br />

<strong>The</strong> director noted that gate receipts were up significantly and that participation was down<br />

one band. MMS (Nugent/Colton) to approve the Marching Band Ballots and rubrics as<br />

submitted by the IBA Marching Band Af fairs Committee. PASSED <strong>The</strong> director reported<br />

that Mr. Video had been contacted about concerns over several bands receiving performance<br />

tapes with no sound. Mr. Video assured the association that every band who<br />

contacted them received a replacement tape free of charge. Also presented was a concern<br />

over whether or not Mr. Video was or needed to obtain Mechanical Licensing for marketing<br />

of these videos. Director Greiner was instructed to contact Mr. Video and require they<br />

provide him proof of this license prior to next years festival.<br />

Tim Peterson submitted a verbal resignation from the Executive Committee. <strong>The</strong> Committee<br />

thanked Dr. Peterson for his service and dedication to <strong>Iowa</strong>’s high school music<br />

programs.<br />

ASSOCIATION CONCERNS: Possible candidates for the National Federation Outstanding<br />

<strong>Music</strong> Educator Award were discussed. <strong>The</strong> director was instructed to obtain<br />

brief biographical information about each new candidate. <strong>The</strong> IHSMA school size classification<br />

policy was reviewed. It was determined that school size classifications remain the<br />

same for the <strong>2004</strong>-2005 school year. Director Greiner was instructed to solicit input from<br />

the IBA Concert Band Af fairs Committee and ICDA Liaison Committee and to develop a<br />

proposal for the next meeting with regard to classification in subsequent years. MMS<br />

(Nugent/Merz) to form committees to help design specialist judge certification for each of<br />

our festivals. PASSED <strong>The</strong> IRS Meal Policy was reviewed. Minutes of the joint meeting<br />

between representatives of the IHSSA and the IHSMA were reviewed. <strong>The</strong> registration<br />

refund policy was reviewed and it was determined that the current policy to not refund any<br />

registration amount less than one Solo/Small Ensemble Event, currently $8.00, was appropriate.<br />

An Executive Committee/District Advisory Group festival attendance policy was<br />

discussed. President Dannen canvassed the committee to ascertain areas of interest. <strong>The</strong><br />
