SHOW-JAZZ CHOIR/JAZZ BAND FESTIVAL<br />

Show-Jazz Choir/Jazz Band Festivals are scheduled as follows:<br />

Jazz Band Festival - Classes 3A, 1A, A - January 15, 2005<br />

Show-Jazz Choir/Jazz Band Festival - Classes 4A, 2A – January 29, 2005<br />

Show-Jazz Choir Festival - Classes 3A, 1A, A – January 31, 2005<br />

Registration instructions, regulations and adjudication forms for these festivals will be<br />

mailed to member schools the early part of <strong>No</strong>vember. <strong>The</strong> deadline date for entry is<br />

<strong>No</strong>vember 23, <strong>2004</strong>; penalty deadline is <strong>No</strong>vember 30, <strong>2004</strong>.<br />

PIANO FESTIVAL<br />

February 12, 2005<br />

Registration instructions will be mailed in early <strong>No</strong>vember. <strong>The</strong> deadline date for entry<br />

is December 2, <strong>2004</strong>; penalty deadline is December 8, <strong>2004</strong>.<br />

Rules and Regulations<br />

1. A fee of $10 will be charged for each entry.<br />

2. <strong>School</strong>s may have an unlimited number of participants.<br />

3. Solo and duet entries are permitted. Duet entries must be 1 piano, 4 hands.<br />

4. Students may enter multiple duet entries provided they change literature and partner.<br />

5. All entry fees should be sent to <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Association, PO Box 10,<br />

Boone, <strong>Iowa</strong> 50036-0010.<br />

6. A master adjudication form will be mailed directly to schools by the IHSMA.<br />

7. Piano adjudication forms must be completed in every detail - school name,<br />

performer(s), selection, and be postmarked first-class to your festival manager by<br />

February 2, 2005. Do not send adjudication forms to the IHSMA. <strong>School</strong>s failing to<br />

comply with this regulation will incur a $25 penalty.<br />

8. Solo(s) will be performed from memory.<br />

9. A copy of the score(s) will be provided for the convenience of the adjudicator. All<br />

measures must be numbered. A performance will not be permitted for participants<br />

that do not comply with this regulation. Photocopies are not permitted. Judges will<br />

withhold the rating for all performances employing illegally duplicated scores. <strong>The</strong><br />

Executive Director will disqualify these performances.<br />

10. Time limit is 5 minutes. <strong>The</strong>re is a 2 1/2 minute minimum performance time, which will<br />

be penalized at the rate of 1 point for every 15 second segment of violation.<br />

11. Performers must be eligible high school students (grades 9-12).<br />

12. Only member schools can register participating students.<br />

13. <strong>The</strong> rating system employed for this festival will be: Division I, II, III, IV, V - Superior,<br />

Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor.<br />

14. <strong>The</strong> host site will send a schedule to each participating school.<br />

15. A 15 second warm-up period will be permitted on the center piano to allow the students<br />

to determine the touch and feel for the instrument.<br />

16. Adjudicators may speak with participants for a brief moment at the conclusion of their<br />

performance.<br />

Site information will be included with registration forms in a <strong>No</strong>vember mailing.<br />
