Beautiful” and the Wilhousky arr. of “<strong>The</strong> Battle Hymn”. Copies of these selections<br />

may be purchased by contacting Jay’s <strong>Music</strong> (800-798-5555)..<br />

17. <strong>The</strong>re will be a soprano solo in Put Vijini and a small chamber choir will be selected for<br />

Regina coeli. Interested soloists and students interested in audition for the chamber<br />

choir should make a tape/CD and send it to: Dr. Greg Grove, City <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>, 1900<br />

Morningside Dr., <strong>Iowa</strong> City, IA, 52245. Tapes/CD’s MUST be postmarked no later than<br />

Wednesday, October 27. If sending tapes of male and female soloists from the same<br />

school, please place all soloists of the same sex on the one tape/CD, and the other sex<br />

on a separate tape/CD. On the outside of the tape/CD, please write the name of each<br />

soloist in the order they appear, and the name of the school. Each student should<br />

introduce himself/herself by saying their NAME ONLY; NOT WHAT SCHOOL THEY<br />

ATTEND. <strong>The</strong> accompanist must play the voice parts only, not the accompaniment.<br />

Compilation tapes will be sent to impartial judges, who will score each vocalist. Approximately<br />

10-12 finalists will be selected for the solo and each voice part. Audition<br />

selections are: Put, Vejini, m 49-56. Regina Coeli: Soprano’s mm 15-22 and mm 92-<br />

95 bt 1; Altos mm 16-22 and 97-100 bt 1; Tenors mm 17-20, and 43-46 bt 1; Basses<br />

mm 17-20 and mm 49-51. Finalists will be heard in Ames, at 6:00 on Thursday,<br />

<strong>No</strong>vember 18 in a designated room at the Scheman building. Finalist names will be<br />

posted on the IHSMA website on Monday, <strong>No</strong>vember 8, <strong>2004</strong>.<br />

ALL-STATE PIANIST<br />

Students auditioning for All-State Pianist must be an eligible member of the school’s band,<br />

chorus or orchestra. Four pianists will be selected. Two pianists will be selected to accompany<br />

the chorus, one to play with the orchestra, and one to play with the band. Pianists not<br />

willing to accept any one of these assignment’s should not audition.<br />

<strong>The</strong> registration fee of $12.00 does NOT cover the cost of the music for accompanist<br />

candidates. <strong>School</strong>s will need to make their own arrangements for the music performed<br />

by the chorus, including the patriotic numbers. <strong>Music</strong> performed by the band and orchestra<br />

will be sent upon receipt of registration or upon request (contact the IHSMA of fice 515-<br />

432-2013).<br />

FIRST ROUND AUDITIONS:<br />

<strong>The</strong> first round auditions will be held at each of the six district audition sites. Registration<br />

forms for auditions have been mailed to each school. Auditions are SATURDAY, OCTO-<br />

BER 23, <strong>2004</strong>, AT 8:00 A.M.<br />

Following are the requirements for the first round auditions:<br />

1. <strong>The</strong> excerpts of the keyboard parts which are to be played will be posted at 7:15<br />

a.m.<br />

2. Each candidate MUST prepare all of the keyboard parts of each All-State chorus<br />

selections, including the patriotic numbers as well as the band and orchestra<br />

selections. Candidates are to take all selections into the audition center.<br />

3. <strong>The</strong> candidate MAY use a STUDENT PAGE-TURNER in the audition.<br />

4. <strong>The</strong> candidate may take 5-10 seconds to familiarize him/herself with the piano in the<br />

audition center.<br />

5. <strong>The</strong> auditor will conduct the candidate on the designated excerpts.<br />
