11. Marking time and/or excessive stopped time will be a consideration in all captions of<br />

the Marching and Maneuvering Judges.<br />

12. Fire WILL NOT be permitted as a portion of any performance.<br />

13. Judging for this festival will be on a point basis employing four dif ferent judges. <strong>The</strong><br />

four areas of judging criteria are: <strong>Music</strong>-General Ef fect; <strong>Music</strong> Execution; Marching<br />

and Maneuvering-General Ef fect; and Marching and Maneuvering - Execution. Judging<br />

Criteria: <strong>The</strong> criteria for each judging assignment is spelled out in detail on the<br />

adjudication forms. <strong>The</strong> point breakdown for divisional ratings is as follows:<br />

68-100 = I<br />

55-67.99 = II<br />

42-54.99 = III<br />

29-41.99 = IV<br />

0-28.99 = V<br />

14. Entry “for comments only” is permissible for this festival. Such information must be<br />

made known to the festival manager by one week prior to the festival.<br />

15. Divisional ratings only will be announced and posted.<br />

16. Any band using the flag of the United States of America in performance should<br />

consult the latest edition of the American Legion Flag Code for proper flag etiquette.<br />

17. Irregularities and Protests: Protests must be submitted to the Executive Committee<br />

for ruling. Each protest must be in writing and accompanied by the judges’ ballots, the<br />

timekeeper’s report and at least one of the judges’ taped comments.<br />

18. A PA system and microphone will be available.<br />

19. Free admission for chaperones (3 per bus) will be granted by the festival management.<br />

20. Directors may provide a “confidential statement to the adjudicators” identifying students<br />

who might be prevented from marching at an expected level of dignity and<br />

grace as a result of injury, defect or physical inability. <strong>The</strong>re is no need to identify the<br />

obvious, i.e., leg in a cast, etc.<br />

21. Disregarding a directive from the festival manager may be cause for withholding of a<br />

rating.<br />

22. Admission will be charged for this festival for all non-participants. Adults - $5, K-12<br />

students - $1.<br />

NOTICE!!! MARCHING BANDS NOTICE!!!<br />

Marching Band Adjudication Forms have entire sections devoted to the evaluation of<br />

auxiliary personnel as they perform with the Marching Band. For bands appearing with no<br />

auxiliary personnel, this excludes command personnel, the IHSMA has devised a separate<br />

set of yellow adjudication forms eliminating those categories. Check the appropriate<br />

blank on the Marching Band Registration Form if your group meets this criteria and you<br />

wish to be evaluated on these yellow adjudication forms.<br />

VIDEOTAPING OF MARCHING BAND FESTIVALS<br />

<strong>The</strong> performance of each Marching Band will be video taped by Mr. Video Productions.<br />

Registration fees include a copy of each band’s performance. Site managers may direct<br />

personal cameras to a specific location.<br />
