Judge Information<br />

JUDGING REQUIREMENTS<br />

Persons interested in serving the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Association as an adjudicator are directed to meet three<br />

criteria established by the Executive Committee:<br />

1. You must have taught successfully in the area of adjudication for fi ve years.<br />

1. You must attend an adjudicator’s certifi cation clinic session.<br />

1. You must be recommended, in writing, to the IHSMA offi ce by two people currently on the “Approved” adjudicator<br />

listing.<br />

IHSMA SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION CLINICS<br />

IHSMA will again be offering specialist certifi cation sessions for adjudicators. Specialist Certifi cation Sessions will be<br />

offered in the following areas: Large Group, Show Choir, Jazz Choir, Jazz Band, and Marching Band. These sessions<br />

will last 1 hour and will be offered at the ICDA, IBA, and ISTA conferences as they are developed. Attendance at one of<br />

these sessions will meet the re-certifi cation requirements of IHSMA. Those individuals that have obtained their specialist<br />

certifi cation will be fi rst considered when offering judging contracts.<br />

BASIC IHSMA ADJUDICATION CERTIFICATION CLINICS<br />

The <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Association will conduct Adjudicator Certifi cation Clinics in late <strong>August</strong> for wind, percussion,<br />

and string adjudicators; and in late September for vocal adjudicators. These sessions will operate between the<br />

hours of 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. You must register for attendance in advance of the clinic. Registration is required for<br />

all certification clinics as a means of guaranteeing the correct amount of materials.<br />

Five different sites have been selected geographically for each discipline. A site will not open if less than fi ve (5) people<br />

will be in attendance. If a site will not open because of insuffi cient enrollment, we will attempt to schedule you into a<br />

nearby site on a different date.<br />

REGISTRATION FOR ATTENDANCE MUST BE BY TELEPHONE ONLY! Call the Association offi ce (515-432-2013),<br />

ask for Donna, to reserve a place at the session you have chosen to attend. This must be done by <strong>August</strong> 19 for<br />

vocal adjudicators and by September 2 for instrumental adjudicators.<br />

That you can apply for the Academic Achievement Awards any<br />

time after the end of the 1 st semester. The IHSMA office will mail<br />

out the awards after the ensemble has participated in the IHSMA<br />
