Cedar Rapids; and his percussion assistant, Chris Ewan, Ames. Mr. Crandell also cited<br />

the outstanding cooperation of Brooke Croshier-Sidebotham and the staff of the Hilton<br />

Coliseum. Mr. Crandell thanked Mike Golemo and the ISU Faculty for their continued<br />

cooperation and support. He also thanked Chris Wood and the Percussion Source for<br />

their continued support of the festival by providing percussion instruments for the band.<br />

He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Mary Citta and Ann Gribbins in coordinating<br />

rehearsal schedules and students.<br />

The All-State Band Chairs surveyed the All-State Band and found that:<br />

75.9% of the students accepted study privately<br />

58.4% of the students were there for the 1 st time.<br />

28.3% of the students were there for the 2 nd time.<br />

11.2% of the students were there for the 3 rd time.<br />

2.1% of the students were there for the 4 th time.<br />

20 students had been members of both the All-State Band and Orchestra<br />

1 student had been a member of both the All-State Band and Chorus<br />

86% of the 2010 Band was made up of students from Class 3A/4A<br />

75.25 of the total registrations for wind/percussion were from class 3A/4A<br />

Mr. Crandell expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Percussion Source/West<br />

<strong>Music</strong> in Coralville, for again providing most of the major percussion instruments and<br />

many of the special auxiliary percussion instruments for the All-State Band. This has<br />

continued to be a major improvement in the quality of instruments the All-State percussionists<br />

were exposed to.<br />

Mr. Crandell announced that the <strong>2011</strong> All-State Conductor would be Dr. Scott Jones, Director<br />

of Bands at the Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.<br />

Mr. Crandell announced that they would be changing the Bassoon Etude book and now<br />

will be using the Method for Bassoon by J. Weissenborn/Bettoney, published by Carl<br />

Fischer.<br />

Mr. Crandell also announced a recommended change in the All-State Band Concert Attire<br />

to:<br />

• Men: wear BLACK suits or Tuxedos, white shirt with black neck/bow tie; Women: wear<br />

BLACK dress or pant suit, or long black dress, or black top and long black skirt. Any option<br />

should include sleeves past the shoulder.<br />

Director Greiner presented a written report on behalf of Ann Osborne Gribbins of the 2010<br />

All-State Orchestra citing the outstanding work of Dr. Henry Duitman and the All-State<br />

Orchestra. Mrs. Gribbins expressed her appreciation to Ted Hallberg for assisting her<br />

with the transition and for the work of the assistants: Nick Hoover, Dowling Catholic <strong>High</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong>, Des Moines; and Katherine Bendon, Pella, Mrs. Gribbins announced that Steve<br />

McCombs, Pella Community <strong>School</strong>s would be taking over as the All-State Orchestra<br />

Percussion Assistant.<br />

Mrs. Gribbins announced the following proposed changes:<br />

• Audition scale requirement for strings only: Violin, Viola, Cello – 16 th notes only –<br />
