PIANO FESTIVAL: The director provided a registration report for the <strong>2011</strong> festival citing<br />

that registration numbers decreased by 6 events this year. The director provided the<br />

results of a survey conducted of the member schools regarding the festival. 97 respondents<br />

were in favor of combining the festival into the IHSMA Solo/Small Ensemble Festival<br />

(S/SE Festival); 2 were not in favor. 56 respondents indicated that if IHSMA were to<br />

incorporate this festival into the IHSMA S/SE Festival that they felt more students would<br />

participate in piano entries; 31 indicated that more students would not participate; 5 indicated<br />

maybe; and 3 were unsure. When asked if less students would participate if the<br />

festival were combined, 5 respondents indicated yes; 80 indicated no; 1 indicated maybe,<br />

and 4 were unsure. 26 respondents indicated that combining the festival was a great<br />

idea. 7 respondents indicated that IHSMA should not be offering this festival or experience.<br />

MMS (Philgreen/Lettow) to incorporate the IHSMA Piano Festival into the IHSMA<br />

Solo/Small Ensemble Festival. PASSED.<br />

SOLO/SMALL ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL: The director presented the registration report for<br />

the <strong>2011</strong> festival series. This year’s festival experienced a 1-entry decline.<br />

LARGE GROUP FESTIVAL: Director Greiner presented the registration report as evident,<br />

reporting an overall decline in participation of 2 ensembles: Choirs experienced a<br />

gain of 3 ensembles, orchestras experienced a 1 ensemble increase, and Concert Bands<br />

experienced a decrease of 6 bands.<br />

MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL: Director Greiner presented a proposal for the adoption<br />

of a lead auditor for this festival that would then be responsible for assembling a 4-man<br />

panel that would be philosophically of like mind. The lead auditor would be responsible<br />

for evaluating the judge panel and providing a summary of that evaluation to the IHSMA<br />

offi ce. The lead auditor would be responsible for conducting a judge orientation meeting<br />

prior to the festival where philosophy, caption, and classifi cation concerns/challenges will<br />

be addressed. The head judge must be and approved adjudicator but the team does not<br />

necessarily have to be. The auditing team will be expected to wear IHSMA provided polo<br />

shirts and appropriate slacks. The panel will be required to wear appropriate uniform<br />

apparel. Each head judge will be provided a $75 honorarium for each team they put together.<br />

Each Judge Panel will be employed by IHSMA at the same rate normally utilized.<br />

MMS (Teigland/Elliott) to accept the proposal as presented. PASSED<br />

DISTRICT ADVISORY GROUP CONCERNS: <strong>No</strong>ne reported that were not covered in<br />

the agenda.<br />

ASSOCIATION CONCERNS: MMS (Elliott/Lettow) to accept the <strong>2011</strong>-2012 registration,<br />

penalty, and festival dates as presented. PASSED The director informed the committee<br />

that he had met with Executive Director of the IHSAA and the agreement between<br />

the IHSAA and the IHSMA was satisfactory to both parties. The director thanked Todd<br />

Lettow, Sharon Day, and Teresa <strong>No</strong>ok for their years of service and dismissed the DAG<br />

members. MMS (Stogdill/Lettow) to move into closed session at to conduct the annual<br />

review of the performance of the Executive Director. PASSED MMS (Philgreen/Stogdill)<br />

to move into Open Session PASSED MMS (Fritz/Lettow) to extend a 2-year contract to<br />
