MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL: The director presented a fi nalized fi nancial report from<br />

the festival.<br />

ASSOCIATION CONCERNS: Possible candidates for the National Federation Outstanding<br />

<strong>Music</strong> Educator Award were discussed. The director was instructed to obtain<br />

brief biographical information about each new candidate. MMS (Stogdill/Lettow) to maintain<br />

the current classifi cation structure. PASSED MMS (Elliot/Philgreen) to maintain the<br />

current adjudicator honorarium to $185.00 for a full day and maintain mileage reimbursement<br />

to $.34 per mile for the <strong>2011</strong>-2012 school year. PASSED Details concerning the National<br />

Federation Summer Meeting to be held in Philadelphia were discussed. The evaluation<br />

instrument and process used to evaluate the Executive Director was reviewed. The<br />

director provided an update of the work of K-16 <strong>Music</strong> Curriculum Summit. Expansion of<br />

the Outstanding Performance concept to the large ensemble festivals was discussed and<br />

feedback from the various committees was shared with the board.<br />

MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND<br />

DISTRICT ADVISORY GROUP MEETING<br />

APRIL 28, <strong>2011</strong><br />

The Executive Committee and District Advisory Group of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>Music</strong> Association<br />

met in Boone, <strong>Iowa</strong> at the association offi ces at 8:30 a.m. Executive Committee<br />

members present were: Todd Lettow, Hampton; Duane Philgreen, Manchester; Susan<br />

Stogdill, Malvern; Kathy Elliott, Panora; Mike Teigland, Indianola; and Jim Fritz, Decorah.<br />

District Advisory Group Members present were: Susan Day, Garden Grove; Jackie Burk,<br />

Goodell; Kurt Schwarck, Spencer; Teresa <strong>No</strong>ok, Clarinda; and Jennifer Sornson, Independence.<br />

Absent: Denise Wade, English Valleys. Also in attendance was Alan Greiner,<br />

IHSMA Executive Director who served as recording secretary. President Fritz chaired the<br />

meeting.<br />

MMS (Philgreen/Elliott) to approve the agenda as provided. PASSED<br />

MMS (Stogdill/Philgreen) to approve the minutes from February 8, <strong>2011</strong>. PASSED<br />

MMS (Elliott/Philgreen) to approve the fi nancial bills as submitted. PASSED<br />

SHOW-JAZZ CHOIR/JAZZ BAND FESTIVAL: The director presented the registration<br />

report for the <strong>2011</strong> festival series. Seven Show Choir/Jazz Choir sites had to be rescheduled<br />

due to weather. Registration numbers for Show Choirs declined by 5, Jazz Choirs<br />

increased by 5 and Jazz Bands decreased by 3 ensembles. This resulted in an overall<br />

loss of 3 ensembles over last year’s festival. The number of schools participating in the<br />

festival decreased by 6 schools.<br />
