MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING AND<br />

DISTRICT ADVISORY GROUP MEETING<br />

October 20, 2005<br />

<strong>The</strong> Executive Committee and District Advisory Group of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Music<br />

Association met at 12:00 p.m., October 20, 2005, in Room 305 of the Hotel Fort Des<br />

Moines. Members of the Executive Committee present were: Jan Merz, Fort Dodge; Tom<br />

Dannen, Leon; Tom Nugent, <strong>No</strong>rthwood; Mark Lehmann, Waverly; Todd Lettow, <strong>No</strong>ra<br />

<strong>Spring</strong>s; and Leon Kuehner, Hampton. Members of the District Advisory Group present<br />

were: Larry Hunecke, Cherokee; C. David Rutt, Forest City; Doug Poppen, West Union;<br />

John Long, Victor; David Heupel, Jef ferson; and Don Struve, Manning. Also in attendance<br />

was Alan Greiner, Executive Director, who served as the recording secretary. President<br />

Dannen chaired the meeting.<br />

A brief introduction of members present was held. President Dannen described the roles<br />

and responsibilities of Executive Board members and District Advisory Group members.<br />

Elections Chair Rutt, provided a report on the outcome of the Fall Election for Executive<br />

Committee. Tom Dannen was re-elected to the Executive Committee, Term Expiring in<br />

2010. John Long, Victor – Administrative Representative; David Heupel, Jef ferson – Vocal<br />

Representative; and Don Struve, Manning – Instrumental Representative were each elected<br />

to the District Advisory Group, Terms Expiring 2008. MMS (NUGENT/KUEHNER) to approve<br />

the Election Report as presented. PASSED<br />

MMS (LETTOW/MERZ) to approve the minutes of the June 28, 2005 meeting. PASSED<br />

MMS(NUGENT/MERZ) to approve the financial bills as submitted. PASSED<br />

James Henkel from Henkel and Associates, P.C. was unable to be present at this meeting<br />

but will be available for the <strong>January</strong> meeting. Director Greiner presented the auditor’s<br />

findings to the board. MMS (LETTOW/LEHMANN) to increase the surety bond coverage<br />

for the executive director to $250,000. PASSED<br />

ALL-STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL: Director Greiner presented the registration report for the<br />

2005 festival. Participation levels have decreased in the wind/percussion, and vocal<br />

areas, but have increased in the string and piano areas. <strong>The</strong> overall registration numbers<br />

have decreased one-hundred and seven entries. <strong>The</strong> director provided a 5-year registration<br />

comparison. <strong>The</strong> director was instructed to provide a map showing the number of<br />

entries by county and current All-State Districting lines for the next meeting. Work details<br />

and motel assignments were determined. MMS (MERZ/LETTOW) to approve Stephen<br />

Miller, Ottumwa; Larry Mannasmith, Red Oak; Daniel Nye, Dubuque, Senior; Mary Reed,<br />

Bellevue; Leon Kuehner, Hampton-Dumont; and Alan Mattison, Belmond-Klemme as<br />

Teacher Tenure Award candidates for this year. PASSED Director Greiner presented the T-<br />

shirt, video, and CD sales procedures to be used in Ames. <strong>The</strong> director presented a<br />
