F) <strong>The</strong> “initial” schedule will be available online shortly af ter the penalty postmark<br />

deadline. It is IMPERATIVE that involved staf f jointly decide upon the location of<br />

their various performances and submit online or return the initial schedule to the<br />

IHSMA of fice by the specified date.<br />

G) VOCAL AND STRING DUET GUIDELINES – a student may perform in one like and<br />

one unlike vocal or string duet.<br />

Vocal Duet Like = two female or two male singers.<br />

Vocal Duet Unlike = one female singer and one male singer<br />

String Duet Like = any two identical string instruments<br />

String Duet Unlike = any two string instruments that are not identical<br />

H) WIND/PERCUSSION/MIXED DUET GUIDELINES – students may perform in multiple<br />

wind/percussion duet entries as long as they change music and either partner<br />

or instrument.<br />

I) DUPLICATION OF PERSONNEL - <strong>No</strong> student may participate in two ensembles<br />

of the exact same type (i.e., two trumpet quartets, two girls trios, etc.) If a student<br />

is found to have performed in two ensembles of the same type, both adjudication<br />

forms will be withheld and both performances disqualified.<br />

J) Students may participate in dif ferent types of ensembles listed under the same<br />

general heading (i.e., A student may perform in one flute trio, one flute quartet,<br />

and one flute quintet under the general heading, “Flute Ensemble”).<br />

K) Expenses incurred by a participating school (meals, lodging, etc.) should be paid<br />

by the participating school. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Music Association assumes no<br />

responsibility in this regard.<br />

L) Solo/Small Ensemble Festival adjudication forms must be completed in every<br />

detail - school name, soloist, selection, etc. - and given to the adjudicator along<br />

with the judge’s score(s) just prior to their performance. DO NOT SEND ADJU-<br />

DICATION FORMS TO THE IHSMA!<br />

3) COPYRIGHT<br />

A) Refer to the section entitled “<strong>The</strong> Copyright Law and IHSMA Festivals” on page<br />

22 of this bulletin.<br />

B) All participants must provide a copy of the score for the convenience of the<br />

adjudicator. ALL MEASURES MUST BE NUMBERED. Performances not complying<br />

with this regulation will not be allowed to perform until these criteria are<br />

met. Participants that are unable to provide a score may appear for “comments<br />

only”.<br />

C) <strong>The</strong> Executive Committee has ruled that schools should not photocopy copyrighted<br />

material. Judges will be instructed to withhold all ratings where a violation<br />

of this occurs. Performances in violation of this directive will be disqualified by<br />

the Executive Director.<br />

D) A director MUST construct a reduced/condensed score for instrumental ensembles<br />

for which no conductor’s score is available. Individual parts will not be accepted.<br />

Performances not supplying the adjudicator a score will not be heard and will be<br />

declared disqualified.<br />

E) Repeats cannot be added to a work without securing permission to arrange from<br />

the publisher.<br />

4) PERFORMANCE REGULATIONS<br />

A) Scratches must be reported to the manager’s of fice upon arrival at the festival<br />

site.<br />

B) Students may not perform the same piece of music more than once during the<br />

festival day.<br />
